It's time I had a haircut, so I'm looking for advice on what's good or modern. I could ask friends and family, but it's so long now that it'll become too much of an 'event' to talk about it prior. I could ask the barber but I always feel they hate people who don't know exactly what they want and don't want to waste their time, so I want something I can name or describe in correct terms and they'll understand my meaning. I used to have it clipped number four back and sides and number five on top, but that was more for the convenience of saying something for definite. I don't want anything that short again, certainly not on top. Points to note: This will be my first haircut in two and a half to three years, so anything I end up with will be a drastic change, but also means there's plenty of length to play with. I've got a widows peak and a hairline that looks like it's receding (it isn't). I've got a double crown. I'm a ginger, so can't have anything too short or I'll look like a nutter. I don't want anything I have to add products too. I quite like Eric Mabius' hair, plus he has a similar hairline, but don't want it quite that long. Photo below. I quite like Nico Rosberg too but want something more practical. So what can the good people of bit-tech suggest? Photos would help.
If it's been over two years, grow your sideburns, get a mustache and cut your hair into a mullet. Add aviators for effect. You will undoubtedly win at everything ever from that point onwards.
I grew mine from 1966 to 1974 1/2 when I met Marilyn. I could tuck it in my belt in the back and my beard was ZZ Top perfect. It was a serious decision what a 'new look' should be. Took Marilyn and I months to decide. One piece of advice is to go to a ladies hair styling place. The usually have books and magazines with what is current style. One benefit you have is that you have hair to cut! I can do a Santa beard in 6 months and a Dumbledore look in a year but I need a hat or sunblock 12 months a year.
I look forward to not having to pay inordinate amounts of money to have someone try not to lop my ears off. I also look forward to having a gray beard - Something about gray beards is just fs'kin cool looking. Wanna swap?
As long as you don't have a plethora of scars and bumps from broken beer bottles , chains, pool cues, knife fights and bar fights. Heads like a roadmap of central London should NOT be shaved. Marilyn says so! Gospel.
I grew mine for about 2 1/2 years, went to my girlfriends usual place in the end. The guy was more than happy to talk about it cos I'd no clue, I think anyone's gonna realise it's a fairly momentous occasion. Couldn't really tell you what I got done in the end though, other than "shorter" (before and after to follow if I can find any on this pc...). Shorter than I'd planned actually but I've never had a haircut when that didn't happen. And John's right, having that much hair to cut is excellent - gives you complete freedom!
I might grow mine as long as you have yours at the moment now Oct, quite liking it at the moment I was getting fairly close to that when you asked me to grow it for shooting the movie I'd really like to have it that long if I'm going to Canada next year! Anyway, back to Red's hair. Hmm... how does ginger hair look in a surfer style? Is your hair curly?
One more thought. I don't know if this is done outside the US but if your hair is long and you get it cut off there are places that need that hair for cancer patients. It gets made into wigs for chemo therapy patients to avoid embarrassment. $0.02 worth. john
