So there seem to be lots of threads, what have you bought, what have you seen etc but I haven't seen one for what do you do for a living... Has that been your only line of work, or have you varied and changed through different careers?

I'll start it off, I am a Third Line Wintel Engineer.

I'm pretty sure this thread has been done before,

Anyway I've earned my money by working for it anyway I could, instead of coming out of university and expecting a prime job to handed to me

Bit tech moderator. The pay is shocking, and my colleagues are a nightmare. Don't even get me started on the clients.

IT Support Operations Manager checking in

Edit: previously, was a Radar Field Engineer, then an Electricians mate on the London Underground refurb project, then a 1st/2nd level Global Websites Analyst, and then a 2nd level Dispatch tech.

Fairly varied, but all engineering-y and/or technical.

Unemployed, actively looking. Fix computers when I can for some spare cash.

Plans for my future: Haven't had any success finding a relevant job in my field. Friend is getting me an interview for a maternity leave opening for 9 months to 1 year. If that works out, great, if not, I'm looking for any part-time work, or full time teller. Might try getting in at the bottom of a bank and working my way internally into an IT / analyst position.

Done a variety of stuff from IT deskside support though to telecom network analyst.

Bit the bullet two years ago and decided (read: couldn't advance any further) to buy a really expensive piece of paper, which I'll get in about 7 weeks.

I was fairly optimistic until the price of oil went to sh|t and the economy in Alberta (I  oilsands!) seems to be going down the tubes with it.

Don't work due to mental illness. How my partner puts up with me on my bad days is beyond me.

Student, in my final year, looking to either:
    • Become a Graduate Systems Design Engineer, working in the nuclear sector, doing some programming, simulation and hardware design as far as I can tell.
    • Become a Graduate Network Engineer, mainly dealing with designing networks for companies
    • Start a PhD which would be a continuation of my current project, looking at real time video super resolution using FPGA to accelerate the processing.

Final year medical student (graduate entry) in London. Just been told today that I'll be starting work in Wales this August, pending finals in April.

Second line IT support. Which where we are basically means you do everything from password resets to hardware/software roll outs testing and networking.

Amusing when we have dedicated 1st line, 3rd line Wintel, NCC and Project teams.

Work as an energy advisor at the moment for the council. The plan is to move down to London and work in either the renewable energy sector, or sustainable consultancy.

    Serial killer/IT analyst.

The latter pays better, but it's less.... red.
