Hi Bit. I'll be getting my first smartphone in a couple of weeks. It's going to be between a Droid Incredible 2 (leaning away from this) and the Droid X2, which seems to fit the price/performance/features equation for me. As the thread suggests, I'm totally new to the "scene" and was wondering if there were any cool apps for me to look for. As far as general interests, I'm looking for anything really. I am an open book. If you have a cool app/game you're using, feel free to suggest it. Are there any good NES/SNES/Other emulators to look out for?
It depends if you want only free or paid too. Free: Aldiko (book reader for PDF and ePub), AndChat (IRC client), Go SMS Pro or Handcent SMS (SMS alternative to original SMS app), Miren browser (superior web browser compared to the standard one), TinyShark (Grooveshark client) Paid : Pure messenger widget, Pure Grid calendar widget
Thanks Faug. Free/Not Free doesn't matter really. Paid apps will come down to the individual app and what it's worth to me, so feel free to suggest paid apps.
If you're on a limited data plan I'd recommend 3G Watchdog. There are quite a few emulators on the Market (free and paid for), I've got Marvin (ZX Spectrum) and Frodo (C64) running on my HTC, although it's quite strange that Frodo doesn't feel as polished on Android as it did when I was running Symbian UIQ 2.1 - and that was 5/6 years ago!
Not sure what you may like or not like but I will put down some I use regularly which are mostly free but do tend to have ad free paid versions: amazon kindle: ebook reader whatsapp: messenger client over data connection handcent sms: sms client maildroid: email client tunein radio: internet streaming radio I have many others but i would think i use these ones more than anything else.
My app list My favourites has to be Sky+ for remote record (not on that list for some reason), Whatsapp for free SMS (uses your internet data instead of your SMS credit) and SwiFTP for sending files to and fro over wi-fi. Oh and the official Twitter client is pretty great and clean too.
Launcher Pro - the best homescreen replacement app. The other one is called ADW Launcher but I prefer Launcher Pro. Definitely worth shelling out for the Plus version too if you like it. Wireless Tether for Root Users - Some carriers can be a bit iffy about this, but depending on your location it should be fine. You have to be rooted to use it, and it will turn your phone into a wireless hotspot Other apps I like and find useful include: WinAmp - Media player SwiFTP - Turn your phone into an FTP server and access your files on the SD Card across a WiFi network Autokiller Memory Optimizer - Helps you have more free RAM and speeds up your phone/responsiveness. For the task killer troll brigade, this is not a task killer, so take the time to understand how it works before deriding it.

I couldn't be bother linking all of them, woulda taken an age. If you can't find anything, or I've made atypo (about 6 I think) let me know. Droid shooter is ace, It's fun to play. It's awsome to watch a mate play after 3 pints, it all gets wobbly. AR (augmenteed reality) has some awsome potential. Games like Tower defense ar you draw the map and create a tower defense game with any path it can find, it needs improving, but it has bags of potential. Or Apps like
PES2011, iDaft (don't ask, just download it), a decent solitaire game and various others.. This is on my Android tablet mind..
Right I'll start with a small list Skobbler the best GPS out there for free Seek Droid (let them steal my phone I'll track it to their door step and gain remote access of the phone) For F1 fans F1timing this is life with the race and practice times I use this for F1 and the GP version whilst at work f......g awesome app Documents to go You edit any office file or pdf file tapatalk Album art grabber enhanced mail or mail droid pro power amp pro
Not one person mentioning Opera mini? I was under the impression it was a great browser? Haven't received my htc yet so I don't have much of a clue tbf.
Not really. Most people use the stock browser, Dolphin HD, some Miren or Firefox. Opera is pretty much ignored, they bring nothing to the table.
Only good thing about Opera Mini is the defaulted turbo mode, a lot of incoming data is compressed by Opera's servers. I also got Miren and Dolphin but haven't really browsed a lot on my phone to decide between the two, they're both good Also, Yongzh has put his popular paid emulator apps up on SlideME after Google yanked it off Android market a few days ago, they're also free to grab for the next 2 weeks as well! https://slideme.org/user/yongzh
That's why I like opera , the data goes through their servers so you don't download as much data, or do other apps do that too?
