So lets cut to the chase here. The Fallout game series has always been one of the most unique and critically acclaimed game series ever. Thats not just how I feel, but also what critics have said. With the release of New Vegas, Besthesda proved that it can still do what it does better than any other game developing company. What I want to know is how you guys felt about the game if you played it. This thread is an open discussion for Fallout New Vegas. Please post your comments.

My review of New Vegas :
    Story: 2/2
    Graphics: 2/2
    Overall Gameplay: 1.5/2
    Critic Responses: 2/2
    My Response : 2/2
    Overall 9.5/10

Doing it out of two might not work to well chap.

Anyway, Thought the game itself was fantastic, plenty of sidequests, plenty of decent story to the entire Mojave area (i.e. why it isn't as radioactive as DC). Plenty of wierd bugs to laugh at (such as a Nightstalker getting lodged in a rock). The engine is dated and I do hope for the next installment (Fallout4) they base it somewhere brand new (Maybe as an ex-Enclave soldier somewhere...) with a brand new shiny engine.

    Simplez.

Probably spent more hours on Fallout 3 and Fallout NV than any other game (other than LOTRO but that's a MMORPG and sucks time out of nowhere). I love the atmosphere of both Fallout games. I hope they don't mess with the settings too much in the next game, but I agree that the engine needs an overhaul - it was looking very dated in NV and was obviously struggling with what it was asked to so.

It will be interesting to see what they do with Skyrim as no doubt that Fallout 4 engine will be similar.

Yea, Fallout 4 will be on the same engine as Skyrim.

As for NV, I thought it was pretty fun, but the engine limitations certainly made it less epic than it could have been. I wonder if Bethesda will do what Bioware did with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, where you import the savefile, and you start off the new game based on decisions from the previous game. I'd like to see what happens after I kicked both the NCR and Legion to the curb, and have the robots on my side :D

Personally, I thought it was very mediocre, just like Fallout 3. I've seen people call these games "Oblivion with guns", and to me that just sums it up perfectly. It has all the same things I thought were great about Oblivion (the graphics, slick presentation, decent attempt at free roaming world, etc), but all the same things I thought were crappy too (the awful combat, the overall easiness of the game, the crappy level and skill system, boring world design, amateurish quest design, etc).

The number one thing that bugs me the most about both games though, is that it sets itself up for utter greatness with the main quest, and I really loved my first few days in both Oblivion and Fallout 3/NV, starting on this epic adventure. The problem is, it's so damn short, I could blast through the whole thing in no time, and then all I'm left with are masses of side quests which I just find really boring and pointless. I would much prefer that they have fewer of these side quests and put more time in to the main quest.

Morrowind did a better job of this, the main quest if I remember took me a really long time to complete. And now I'm playing Nehrim which I've talked about in another thread, it's basically Oblivion at it's core but they just do a far better job of it. I'm not overwhelmed with little chore quests. They are better written and feel more purposeful, and because there aren't that many of them, I feel more willing to do them while I am working my way through the main quest (which itself is bigger and more impressive).

So that's my opinion in a nutshell. People try to argue that it's just the nature of "sandbox games", but I disagree. I just think the harsh reality is that Bethesda are bit crap at some things and need a wake up call. They do a great job at technical things, but they need far better gameplay designers. I'm really looking forward to Skyrim to see if they improve on these things or not.

    @Sausages. Fair point.

Personally I did not see them as main quest/side quest, I just played it as one massive experience. Also, a lot of the 'side quests' actually contributed to the main quest by giving your side-kicks extra abilities or better weapons etc.

To be fair to all though Fallout/NV is a bit of a marmite game. People seem to fall in to the love it/hate it camp. I suspect Fallout 4 to be the same!

The OP's threads today all have a whiff of canned meat about them so it will be interesting to see if he ever replies.

As for Fallout: NV, I enjoyed it up to the game breaking bug that meant I could not complete the game. Bethesda will never receive a penny from me until they actually release a game that works properly.

I would go as far as to say that the main questline wasn't any more important than the sidequests that may or may not be related to it.

I also think that the veterans at Obsidian (not bethesda, sausages) did an amazing job with the quests and dialogue options, stuff that a younger company couldn't have come up with.

Lol - getting out of hand this one! I think it does go to show how these games appeal greatly to one person and not to another. My best mate hates the Fallout series. We haven't quite got to the point of rolling our sleves up for a spot of Pugilism, but some rather nasty eyebrow raising did occur once.

DragunovHUN - Cut it out! There's no need for such personal remarks. Do it again and I'll give you another leave of absence. Attempting to take the high ground after you poke your nose in the air and drop a snide comment doesn't work.

    Flaming has been removed.

Just started FO3 again (last saves got nicked along with my Xbox). I have the GOTY version so I did Operation Anchorage last night and felt quite guilty at the end of it. But then I read the fallout wiki and found that the Outcasts are scripted as Evil characters anyway so now I don't feel so bad about 7 or 8 dying all in an argument about my right to technology.

Plus I looted their corpses and have a shitload of Power Armour :D :D :D

When I've finished FO3 I'll get around to NV, but considering I have a habit of being sentimental about stuff (I have the starter bb gun on a shelf in my megaton house >_>) that might be quite a while :p

Bought Fallout:NV and loved it, bugs and all. I jacked up my luck and got kicked out of all the casinos, so that was fun....wish I could do that in real life. How great would that be? Right now I'd say my luck is at about a 2 in real life:wallbash:

Haven't played it for a while; my most recent achievement is making the entire of the White Glove Society run after me with canes.

I don't think they wanted me snooping around their basement.

One of my friends told me they eat people though.
