i intend to put the OS/programs on a ssd when they come down in price so i think i be sticking with just the 1 hard drive
That PSU is overkill, the 750W version should still be more than enough to run that system, and you never gave a price for the Case, I'm sure there's another case you like that costs less? (The ATCS 840 didn't fare well in testing I'd recommend the P182, the Akasa Infiniti, or if you're after burning money (and have a warehouse to keep it in), a Silverstone TJ10
182 is oooooooold and the TJ10 is ugly HX1000 is overkill though, true. If you want to burn some cash on a PSU look at the CM UCP 900 or Antec Signature 850W or the Seasonic M12D (iirc) 850W.
i thought the psu would be overkill but its in the bit-tech December recommended what to buy. The ACTS 840 is just under £240, no other case does it for me quite like the 840 does. Stylish, tons of rooms for future water cooling, removable tray, did i mention stylish? What PSU would you recommend? The only upgrade i will be doing in the future would be to add another gtx 280 and water cooling
Keep the PSU at 1000W+. Since you're going to do graphics upgrades in the future, the extra power will be welcome (and perhaps even necessary). If you can find a case that supports the extra length (and I think it is a tad bit longer than even the Corsair), Zalman's ZM1000-HP has internals that match the Corsair's fairly evenly, but is MUCH quieter. Silent PC Review has labeled it their only recommended quiet kilowatt PSU. The chief downside is that it only has 4 PCI-E cables. So as long as you're okay with being limited to two GTX280s I'd shoot for the Zalman (though again, that's just my opinion). - Diosjenin -
Its also cheaper, i dont i will ever go over 2 graphic cards, i have to read a review on it and see. My pc buying plans have been postponed til tomorrow anyway so feedback is still welcome
Nice setup, looks a lot like what I am building. However, I am going with an EVGA X58 mobo and 3 EVGA 260+'s because newegg is selling them as a combo for $170 off. I am going to run two in SLI and sell the third as new to get a little cash back. Might want to check into that if you're not completely stuck on ASUS.
i would but it aint on scan.co.uk where im getting everything from will be getting the gtx 260, still not sure about the psu being 1000w but no idea how much power im going to need
Might want to take a look at the Corsair Ultimate Series PSUs. I believe they come in 900 watts and 1100 watts. If I remember correctly, they were rated well by bit-tech. Downside is that they are not modular.
If you want to stick more graphics cards in, possibly water cooling, and more hard drives (all of which you said you may at some point) I'd stick with the Corsair HX1000, it's modular, it's reliable (being a Corsair PSU), and it will have enough power for nearly anything you want to stick it with in future. IMO, keep the HX1000.

i havent got the screen to warrent 2 gtx 280's will be getting a second gtx 260 216 when games start to push the single 1 to hard
