Fractal-Design visited Mnpctech to check out the case, before it shipped out!

Fellow, bit-tech member, JohnHanlon303 lives with incurable Asbestos Poisoning, which leaves him with 40% lung capacity. He can no longer be employed with this condition. Hes filed paperwork for Government financial assistance, but won't see 1st check until this April. Until then, he needs financial help with living expenses and medical prescriptions. To help raise money for John, I've teamed up with Darth Beavis to build a custom PC, to auction off on Ebay. I'm doing the case modifications then sending the modified case to Darth, he'll install a water cooled system and oversee the auction of the PC on Ebay.

Another way to help John is by making a direct donation via Paypal, HERE organized by Alex Ftoulis aka AnGEL and Masbuskado Modding, leaders of HOTG modding association and NewModCity.

You can join the "Support John Hanlon" Group on facebook organized by Alex Ftoulis aka AnGEL to offer your help however you can. Even if you can't afford to help financially, post your words of support for John!

This Case Mod portion of this build is done by bit-tech's MOTM Sponser, Mnpctech!

The Fractal-Design Define R3 has Black factory sound dampening foam on the side panels. My goal is to install a custom window without the Black U-channel window molding, so the panel has clean look.

Make first initial cut with your Dremel and reinforced cutting wheel, to allow use of Jigsaw and cut the window more efficiently

You have created a slot to allow a Jigsaw w/ 18 TPI cutting blade. The blade will cut through the Steel and sound dampening foam. You will have to periodically clean foam debris from the Jigsaw blade.

Using a Jigsaw is much quicker than using a Dremel to cut your window
    [IMG]

I'm removing 1/4" of Black foam from the edge of opening with X-acto knife, so I can install Clear acrylic window with 3M 4010 Tape.

Using Flat head screw driver to peel off the 1/4" of sound deadening foam
    [IMG]

Reside left on the Steel after peeling off 1/4" foam
    [IMG]

Small particles of the foam will melt onto outside of window, that need to be removed.

Using small hand file to remove small particles of the melted foam.

To remove residue of the foam, I dabbed Sunnyside brand Mineral Spirits to a piece of cloth and rubbed off the residue. The Mineral Spirits did not effect the factory paint finish on the Define R3.

Residue of foam, before applying Sunnyside brand Mineral Spirits.

    Foam residue removed.

Now you can install Clear acrylic window cut to the dimensions of the exposed Steel, with 3M 4010 Tape
    [IMG]

I'm going to install a Clear Cast Acrylic window later, after the panel has been custom painted with 3M 4010 Tape

When I get home this evening, I'll donate whatever's in my Paypal at the time. Has to be close enough to £20.

    Great start Bill. :)

Oh, and I almost forgot, something like this deserves a rep bomb.

I'll see what I can find here for you guys, be it parts or money. You're too important to us to let leave the internet, John. Who would I discuss being sick with?

Tell ya what. I have 4x1GB of Ballistix Tracers (green LED) here if you guys don't have any other RAM. Let me know and it's yours.

If this was not for John, I'd be very worried to see Bill mod this Fractal as he might do a better job than me at it!

But since it's for a case as good at helping John, I'll actually forgive him! :) Mod the HECK out of that thing, and make it as EPIC as you possibly can! :thumb:

Can't really think of a better reason to mod TBH.

And John, PLEASE don't spend your remaining money on buying this off of Ebay when the auction starts!
