Hi folks, I'm looking for an Anti-virus / Internet Security package for a fairly low spec netbook, ideally something that doesn't hog too many resources, as it's a single core CPU, with 1GB of RAM. Any pointers would be really helpful. Ta.
going on this http://www.av-comparatives.org/image...od_aug2010.pdf and taking this into account with the information here http://www.raymond.cc/antivirus/idlemem.html i would say Avast is the best bet at the moment although i am not entirly convinced about the memory usages in the raymond website i cant seem to find any other comparisons to get figures for them and going on firewall depending on what you are doing with it so long as you have sensible browsing habits and a hardwear firewall, the included windows firewall should be up to the job,
What this man said. It's the least intrusive AV I've found, tried AVG, just lagged my system really bad when it scanned. M$SE doesn't do that.
I went with the general consensus, MSE it is. Seems fairly unintrusive, no noticable impact on performance. Cheers Chaps
I tried a few on my laptop, including Microsoft Security Essentials, but the best one I found was Avast... ________ Banty4u live
i use avira for all pcs including netbooks and slower machines and it always runs very lightweight on all machines.
I use Avast on all of my computers without any problems but I would try out MSE if running on a more lightweight platform (the slowest system I have is a Athlon II M500 (2.2ghz dual core)).
