so got my quote for the year 2 weeks ago - quite chuffed , got it down £180...

but now , want to change my car for a diesel...

ask kwik fit (my insurer) - they want £457 addition premium!

im changing from a petrol 806 to a diesel one.....

so it would go from £330 a year for £887 a year!!

    WTF??

8 year no claims , over 25 (lol) - its a damn joke! - they also want £87 if i choose to cancel!

I changed my car about 9 months into an insurance thing, bearing in mind I had already paid 1200, to go from a mk1 focus 1.6 to a mk1 focus st170 they wanted another 1800 quid.

I was 24 at the time on my second year of NCB.

Lol'd at them, went elsewhere and got insured for 1000 for a year.

Still. A grand is a lot of money to throw away on the theory that I might have an accident.

    The wonderful world of insurance.

    Crooks the lot of them.

I have 5 years no claims, am 30 and still my premium is more than it was for a bigger faster car when I was 25 >: (

the problem i face - i can change company and get the level of cover i have now for £465 (comp , protected no claims , breakdown and legal cover) - but the difference would be £100 over what kwik fit finally agreed to (the reduced it with discounts to £550 from £887) - i cancel at kiwk fit and pay the cancellation and would save all of £25

You'd also reset your insurance cycle so its always due at christmas/new year. Its bad enough with VED, trust me its not worth the hassle.

£500 a year on an 03 plate Volvo V40 1.9 turbo diesel - with 9+ years of no claims bonus (Protected always), legal cover (that now doesn't include a guaranteed courtesy car.... despite last year having that feature that I specifically asked for), breakdown cover and relay to my destination.

Think my postcode makes them go ker-ching despite me being:

    a) Married
    b) A Father
    c) A teacher (apparently one of the most statistically safe jobs when calculating insurance risk)
    d) History of high performance cars ( Renault 19 16v followed by Saxo VTS followed by a UK spec Impreza Turbo 2000 running 270bhp and 270 ft/lb torque)
    e) 35 years old.

Despite this, it is still cheaper now than at any time in my life iirc.

Damn you people that pay under £1000 a year!

    £300 a month on a 1.1 2 door knackered Peugeot from the early 90s here :(

    How's this for logic:

25, no NCB, license since 17 but no real car insurance history.

    2005 BMW 630i (3 litre straight six)

    Fully comp w/ £450 excess.....£730pa.

I am one lucky son of a gun.

    23 next week,

    4 years no claims

    fully comp with £250 excess

1ltr car (all roughly the same)

    £250 a year.

I'm slightly higher for my sports car at £700 or so, but it is a lunatic-fringe-mobile

When we had the Scoob it was more expensive to insure with the GPS tracker enabled than it was with it disabled. Figure that one out?

Gav, you survived the ordeal at Stirling Arnold Clark? well done....I couldn't cope with all the pressure cross-selling to some Korean thing....

C1 is definitely a lower risk than the fiesta though, I can actually see how that would work out.

Yeah, the guys were geniunly good, and I did get a very good deal for my C1 so I am chuffed, plus I have done a few quotes for the future and the C1 certainly is a cheap wee car to insure...
Happy that my crash hasn't effected my insurance (it was his fault, but I was still concerned it would get bumped up)
