    Hi,

I would like to upgrade the CPU and heatsink/fan in a socket 775 motherboard in a Compaq SR1937UK model PC, the current CPU is a Pentium D 3.2GHz.

The motherboard looks to be 230mm x 230mm or thereabouts, what options have I got for upgrading the CPU/Heatsing/Fan. It is a tower case with 90cm case fan.

Can I use any socket 775 CPU or am I restricted to specific types due to the proprietary compaq motherboard and voltage settings etc?

Going by this the motherboard is an ECS RC410-M, which looks like it has standard 775 mounts. Because it's such an old motherboard and chipset you basically have the best processor you can get for it.

Thx for the link and the info.

I think it is time for a replacement CPU/board etc as I would probably not be able to purchase a new CPU for it nowadays. I just ran a CPU-z check on it and it is a Pentium D Presler 940 CPU which is 6 years old.
