named Gizmo... pics below: He's already developed a fondness to play in his litter box instead of pooping in it, and also uses it as a storing area for all his toys.. That and he scared the crap out of my cat wen he wanted to play with her He's a 2 yr old light-sable male (neutered and de-scented) I got from a ferret rescue, previous owners got him for their children who promptly wanted nothing to do with him so they dumped him at the rescue.
Ferret nation cage is pretty much the best cage for a ferret, and there's plenty of room for him though I'll be buying another story add-on next paycheck. The first pic I actually had the sleeping area a bit too high, I lowered it so there's more room now.
Cage is fine for a single ferret. Too large and they won't use the extra space anyway. They tend to curl up into groups when several are kept together. Healthy looking specimen. You will need to adjust your schedule to theirs if you want to play and bond with him. They bond best when they are not disturbed while sleeping. They can get grumbley. Sweet pets and very leash trainable for outdoor walks but easily scared by barking dogs and small kids who move too fast.
The rescue shelter told me that they have a really high tendency to adapt to their owner's schedule actually, so we shall see.. Getting him a giant 20ft long tube tomorrow which I'll be setting up in the stairway.. hehe.. He's extremely curious though, wants to see every single inch of the house lol
You have any other pets beside the cat? Some ferrets I have known are left to free roam about their owner's homes like a cat or dog. They will find their own cage/sleeping environment if the door is left open. At 2 yrs. it may be too late to train him to your environment.
No just the cat, however I don't want him pooping everywhere, especially since I'm not going to be home the majority of the day (9am - 6pm) to supervise him. When I'm home (like now), I let him out, but I gotta watch he doesn't chew on random stuff or swallow anything or it might cause blockage.
Although ferrets are illegal here(I think) my cousing had Piranhas. Those things are like chainsaws that swim.
I dated a woman who had two ferrets and a cat. That poor cat rarely got to walk on the floor without the ferrets double teaming him.
What a cute little devil. Wouldn't mind having a friend with a ferret so I could come by to see one, but I wouldn't take one of those myself.. My retarded cat is just as stubborn and non-teachable as I'm willing to tolerate - suppose I'm more of a dog person
Not yet, he's been running around my room all day and making chuckling noises. Haha.. alright, here: He kept trying to get out so I had to get creative on blocking him from crawling under the door (yes.. he does fit through there): Attacking the camera: Attacking the camera again: And again: Bonus video taken with NexusOne of Gizmo vs Roomba:
Yea, for some reason when I upload from my N1, it takes YouTube a few minutes more than usual to make the video work.. dunno why, though I'm guessing it's because it's from a 3GP video file? Oh well. Make sure you read up on ferrets first, there's some stuff you have to be careful about with them
