Am trying to get my head around how to work out electricity prices and just want to see if im doing it right if someone can confirm?

I assume that 1 unit measured on the electric meter = 1 kWh?

To work out what 496 units (496 kWh) would cost I take the price per kWh which looking about on the net is around 16p (does that seem right?)

So 496 kWh would cost £79.36 based on 16p per kWh?

    Cheers :thumb:

I try not to work it out. I think knowing how much I spend on Folding electricity would cause me stop! Ignorance is bliss :)

Sounds right. Not all electricity suppliers bill you at a flat rate though. Check with them for more details.

Yep that's basically it. At the moment NIE (Northern Ireland Electricity) customers are paying ~15-17p/Kwh or as they confusingly call it pence per unit, which is the same thing but it throws many people.

I have been metering my folding hardware recently and my dual GPU2 rig is costing a hair above 80p per day to run (avg taken over 7 days of 100% load folding). Not too shabby I don't think :)

Here they offer a discounts during certain times of the day, like 4:00-8:00 PM and 8:00-11:00 am cost 20 cent per Kwh and the rest of the day cost 6 cents per Kwh. So I try to do my folding during the 6 cents per Kwh times.

Otherwise (on our old plan) it was 11 cents per Kwh

I have a friend folding for CPC whose bill is £0.00 also, he has all his hardware running in his office at his familys factory which is so large and draws so much power that it has its own substation! Compared to the power that the machinery on the production floor uses, his 4 or 5 24/7 folding rigs are like a drop in all the oceans of the world :jawdrop:

Care to share it. I'd like to drop my £6k a year bill to zero as well.

You think that's bad, ask Spunkymonkey what his bill is.

Wow that's a lot mate! lol

Luckily I have my main 4 x 9800GT rig at work in the air-conned server room, mainly for the cooling but the other 3 rigs are at home but only 2 of them run 24/7.

Anyways thanks for confirming my maths seems ok above, just want to be prepared as Ive just swapped Gas & Electric suppliers and dont want to be stitched up! :worried:
