Hardware Nvidia Announces GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, $499 GTX 1080

11GB of VRAM? That seems a little odd.

That being said, it will probably be faster than the Titan due to custom coolers and higher clocks that come from it. Titan will always have a reference only design, I'd imagine.

 

At those prices Nvidia is saying we want the gpu market. Most where only expecting low end Vega to price match the 1080

 

Does this seem like a price drop on the 1070 is imminent too?

 

I would imagine it would have too, or the 1080 could be very little more money. Expecting 1070 to dip to £300 rrp with the 1080 around the £450 rrp.

Sad to see DVI support being dropped. My Dell 3007WFP-HC days are numbered. Probably keep my Titan XP rig as it is for a couple of years as a result.

 

Could always buy a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Nvidia confirmed prices of 1080 would be $499 which does equate to about £450. Definitely now expecting the 1070 price drop.

 

Already bought some Displayport to DVI active adaptors, but the things keep dying on me. I think they get killed by the heat GPUs kick out.

I wonder when we'll see reviews of the 1080 Ti?

 

Looks very tasty and the price, whilst still high, isn't stupidly so in comparison to their previous flagship products.

We shall see, not sure they would sell at £800 as estimates suggest £650 uk retail price.

 

I must be missing something as i can't understand why they'd do a GTX 1060 9Gbps OC while leaving the 1070 untouched, isn't that going to be a bit confusing in terms of performance or pricing if we have 1060 < 1070 < 1060 9Gbps or will the new 1060 sit just under the 1070?

 

Surprised they are so open about it being faster than a Titan X, coupled with it being cheaper than most of us expected, seems a bit of a kick in the balls for anyone who burnt a grand on a Titan... But then again, anyone who spends a £1000 on a GPU doesn't really need sympathy, do they?

Yet another version of a 1060 is the really confusing aspect for me. If they are dropping the 1080 RRP, logic says they should/need to do the same for the 1070 too, which will surely get a bit muddled with a new (presumably more expensive) 1060?

They should have just charged an extra $50 for a special "SLI Edition GTX 1060", at least that would have had a clear role and market.

 

The exact same thing has occurred with every single Titan released. If you buy a Titan for gaming and don't expect a cheaper & faster card to be released a few months later, you only have yourself to blame for being such an utter pillock.

 

Yeah, exactly that. I did raise a bit of an eyebrow at this line from the review "The Founders Edition card will launch next week, this time without the usual increase over the MSRP, which has been set at $699 - a move sure to infuriate anyone who splashed out $1,200 on a Titan X."

I mean, what did these people expect? Titans are pretty much for the e-peen and always have been. This happens every single time

 

Never been under any illusion about what would happen, and no regrets. Gaming is my main hobby and playing the latest games at high resolutions and full EVERYTHING is what I want.

 

Titan X at least was the fastest card for a couple month, while not particularly good value for money that just comes with the bleeding edge territory.
I reckon the ones that are more upset are those who recently bought one of the more premium 1080s that cost as bloody much as the 1080ti.

 

It's always been the case that the cutting edge is an expensive place to be Diminishing returns and all that, but if you need the fastest possible tech then you have to pay through the nose for it.
