News Windows Store games to force graphics driver updates

Microsoft, they just can't get past their corporate instinct to control & dominate everything they touch can they...

 

It's also completely unnecessary, and risks creating problems where they didn't exist pre-update. Unless your drivers are really old, I always thought it was better to only upgrade if your getting issues or poor performance.

 

From my understanding, if it detects that the drivers are older than the recommended ones from the game studio, it will only tell Windows Update to check for updates.

So in reality nothing changes, as Windows, as before, install the latest drivers it has (which are usually older than what the manufacture has). It just ensures that you have recent drivers before starting the game, and you don't have an experience where the game has graphical glitches or performance glitches, and next week, all are solved as Windows Update kicked in.

 

Shhh, we can't be having any of that logic around here! Down with 'M$' and so on!

 

Isn't windows store the steam greenlight of app shops?

Steam Greenlight is a place where people post their game, and gets up voted to reach the Steam store. While it is filled with garbage, it allows small developers that actually do have a gem reach the Steam Store.

Windows 10 Store is a place where you buy or get for free: games, movies, TV shows, music, Edge extensions and apps. As apps, you have: Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, Twitter, Netflix, Instagram, Pandora, Hulu, Dropbox, VLC, and more.

As Windows 10 market share grows over time, and more users discovering the Store, more apps and games will arrive.

Many XBox One games cross buy. Meaning that if you buy the game on the XBox One you have for free the PC version from the App Store (and the reverse. Just make sure that the game has cross buy, and you use the same account on both systems). I believe your save games are stored in the cloud, allowing you to play a game on your TV with your console and resume it on your PC (not sure, don't have an XBox One to try). Great if that game feature local multiplayer as well. You can play the game on your PC, and when you have friends over, head over the console with your big TV and sofa and play there.

 

This isn't new. It wouldn't let me launch Forza without updating to the latest WHQL driver several months ago.

 

I'm not sure it's a big deal, it will only ever use a WHQL driver which tend to be more reliable anyway and if it's a minimum requirement what would you rather do? Have an outdated one so the game you just bought doesn't work?
