Batman arrived at long last! YAY! BUT! Here is what I had to go through over the last hour. And I still haven't played the game...

Install the game, install Games for Windows LIVE, choose the settings, launch the game.

Hello, please sign into Windows Live.

    Signed in.

There is an update for LIVE, yes or no?

Ok then, lets see how far this has come

Updates the game, restarts and I'm back in game within the minute. Very nice!

Hello, please sign into Windows Live.

    Signed in.

There is an update for this game available from LIVE, yes or no?

Go for it! Live has proven itself to me.

Progress bar hits 99% and then... nothing... waiting for 10 minutes... Nothing.

Close the LIVE bar and it signs me out.

Sorry, unless you're signed into LIVE you can't save... What THE ****!

I can't even save a game offline anymore? You have got to be shitting me!

    Try again.. NOTHING!

Try declining update... Unless you update you can't sign in... And you can't save...

Final try, and I just leave the updater to it and watch some family guy while eating my crumpets (I'm ill, they make me feel better :p).

FINALLY, nearing the end of family guy, the update does it's thing and asks me if I can update my system... That is a whole 20 minutes at 99% then...

The installer couldn't find something, bla bla bla, the update has failed.

    Windows LIVE, you suck!

Rocksteady, I feel sorry for you dirtying what is a great game with such rubbish.

    Live does suck.

have you tryed creating an offline account? eg, go into GTA4, create an offline account, make sure it's set auto-sign in and then launch batman.

i now have 2 Live accounts: one online such as GTA4, one offline for singleplayer games such as Batman, then, i can backup my Live games by backing up my offline account along with Batman saved games.

Careful with offline accounts... you can't exports your save game.. so if you re-install your system, you are preatty much screwed. They are ways to go around it, but it's a project.

    Live sucks big time.

Surely there'll be a remove-live patch from slightly erroneous sources?

    Still no progress...

I hate the person at Microsoft who convinced the nice people at Rocksteady to use GFWL...

But I actually paid for the game... :(
What is happening to this industry...

    actually you can. :)
find your offline xbox profile at
    Code:
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive
back up that along with your Batman or any Live saved game, and simply restore to that location when re-installing windows.

i've tryed that for GTA4 and works perfectly, i think Batman's saved games are located in "My Documents/Eidos", backup xlive folder along with the one in My documents and problem solved. :) make a batch file that's using xcopy and do backups regularly perhaps.

When I tried that with GTA4, the game said "Load game failed". The file seams to be encrypted (or some sort of lock-down system) with some random number. Based on what I read on the net, you need a Hex code editor and edit several files at various locations within each files, and THEN it works.

for GTA4, all you need are the following 2 folders:
    Code:
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games
i used xcopy with following commands to make sure all files are copied over
    Code:
    xcopy /h /r /k /x /y /E
and it simply worked every time, even from vista to win7.

It takes a while to download the Batman 1.1 physx patch - it's a pain but it gets there in the end. I think you can download it manually, try a google.

Games for Windows Live is absolute travesty.

Search for "games windows live update 99%".

Its a very common error with it (from Fallout 3) but some people there have at least found a way round it. See if any of those help.

I had to re-install the game, but now it does the update, and gets to 99% and I wait for 20 minutes but this time, it doesn't crash out, it just applies the update. Finally...

I get the update problem a lot with GFWL when playing DoW2 but you can get around it by downloading the update installer directly from the GFWL page. I can't remember quite how I got it but I think there's a link in the troubleshooting section for "your updater is ****"

    I didn't have any problems.

The title update is about 266mb and the progress bar doesn't work... i.e. it races to near the end and stops... BUT IT IS DOWNLOADING !! (20 mins on my rubbish internet).

It's not hanging, the patch is just large.

After that get the insane map pack in the DLC section it's free......about 119mb.

Haven't had a single issue here myself, then again my GFWL account is fully up to date via Fallout 3.

Then again I don't see why we need the GFWL accounts for any of these games myself....

Hmmn, so far the only game I have that needs GFWL is Gears of War and I didn't have any issues (apart from the game needing a patch to even start) but I've seen lots of posts from other people who have had endless problems.

I'm now in two minds about getting Batman for the PC, the possible grief with GFWL is a concern so I might opt for the XBox version. However I might just say WTF and go for it, take the pain and update whatever is necessary so I can play using a proper game setup.

I had zero problems playing Live games. None at all!
I just put the disc in my xbox and press 'on'. Then I play!

    Oh, wait...

I'm having issues too. What the heck? Most BS system I've ever heard of. Finally it somehow presented me with a "start new game" message. Great! I play for a bit. Close it out. Worry that it didn't really save. Start it up and BAM, same BS, nothing saves, update takes forever and doesn't do anything! grrrrr.
