Spec'ing up 30 new computers for one of my classrooms, nothing big and special so dont get too excited!

I want to know what the PPD for a

    Quad Core 9400
    or
    Dual Core 8400

    Two graphics cards

    8400GS 256MB PCI
    or
    9400GT 512MB PCI

Due to the rules regarding the purchasing of educational computers we are not able to make our own systems without going through far too many hurdles for it to be worthwhile. Therefore when looking at quotes this last week the above set are our options, the problem is I dont think I will be able to cost a Quad Core 9400CPU and the 9400GT GPU within the budget, so its probably going to be Quad 9400 and the 8400GPU, but am interested in what people think the PPD for these individual items will be, as although not a major consideration when creating the new room, if something massively stands out it might be something I consider.

    Thanks

I have a E8400, and with the 6.23 smp client @95% i get 1,650 ppd running at the stock speed of 3ghz for a 1760 pointer, it will also run at 486 ppd for each core with one of the older cpu clients - 504.

Not sure about the geforce 8400, but i do have an geforce 8600GT (36 shader i think) running, the ppd on that is around 850 for a 511 pointer, and around 1100 on some of the other 384 and 768 pointers, however the card regulary returns unstable machine errors and EUE (Early Unit End) on 511 and 768, but seems to be ok on the 1888 points, not sure why, i hope this helps.

    Norfolk....

    8400GS's get about 400-4500ppd

The quads should be good though (shame you can't run vmware as a service)

What about me summer holiday "house cleaning" tasks etc? I need to inspect each one!

Also, with any new computer, it needs running in as you are aware :thumb:

I'm not sure what's happening to the summer camp me and laddo are supposed to be setting up if not running......... Would you room be an appropriate choice? :cooldude:

Would I still be able to walk?
