Recently gotten back into Skyrim and adding mods has gotten a lot easier with the Steam Workshop, so I'm interested in adding some mods to the game to change things up a bit! I've read the bit.tech article for "the perfect Skyrim" and was wondering if you guys had any great mod recommendations, as there doesn't seem to be any Skyrim mod threads already!

Just realised how many times I wrote the word mod there...

I hadnt played in ages, got a new gfx card in between that, now im having problems....

Flames dont appear properly, and i cant read text in books! Disabling AA solves the problem with the flames but i still cant read books!

It was weird seeing the dragon at the start appear to "Cough!!" on every one! lol

Well that's definitely weird, tried updating graphics drivers? That's always the go-to fix for any graphical issues it seems!

If you think the dragon coughing on everyone is weird you should try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bifmj1O3D24 Yep.

hmm... Pneumonic plague dragons perhaps! :p :hehe:

Personally I just go through the various catagories on the workshop and sub to whatever I'm looking for/looks interesting. Not sure how good the auto "clean up" of steam is when you un-sub something - cause I'm OCD about my games getting too fat, I have a backup of the Data folder that I use to replace the original when things get to messed up.

All I'm using is the HD Texture Pack plus I've tweaked both my config files. Other than this there are no mods. But I must admit it looks quite beautiful with my tweaked config which unlocks certain things such as better quality water & lighting.

Edit: This is actually a better source for the tweaks!

On a side note; does anyone experience shocking lag in certain maps only? Most maps & whilst outdoors I am running flawless so I find it bizarre that in some maps I have to restart the game to stop the lag. I presume there is a memory leak in the game?

Yea they were already upto date :S MSI GTX 650 Ti, a google found me the fix for the flames (No AA) but cant find anything for the fact the book text not appearing.

I did install a load of the mods from the article and one of first things i did was remove them all but didnt change it a bit.

    Kinda renders it unplayable :(

The core mods you really need to improve the Skyrim experience, IMHO, are SkyUI and one of the HD texture packs, be it Bethesda's release or a higher res 3rd party one. Those two alone can improve things so much. (Plus Conjure Ethereal Horse, but that's just me) SkyUI makes things so much nice, and the HD texture packs stop things from looking quite so blurry.

Yeah, the SKYUI does make the inventory a lot easier to scroll through, especially if you want to order things by how much they are worth or armor rating etc, but you need to download SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) to make it work properly but thats not a chore. I'd go for the 3rd party 2K texture pack over the Bethesda version an the Bethesda version only doubles the texture resolution to 1024, where the 2K textures doubles it again to 2048, although you'll need more than 4Gb of RAM for the 2K textures, I'd run out of RAM pretty much immediately with 4Gig, but when I moved up to 8Gig, it was as smooth as silk all day long......

Personally I completely agree. I'm on something like my 4th play-through and used a few mods but none of them are totally game changing (HD textures, SkyUI, less condescending guards...etc). I still think there's lots of content in the game that there's not a huge need for new mod content. That being said though, I haven't completed every side quest or daedric quest or even entered the companions 'guild' yet. I've still clocked around 120 hours in the game and there's still loads I haven't done in it.

Despite everything I've said above I think a total conversion themed on a song of ice and fire would be incredibly well suited.

Dragons, wights/white walkers - draugr kind of, giants, snow, multi faceted religions.. It just seems to lend itself really well to the game engine. Became particularly obvious to me when I decided to play a purely fire magic user name Melisandre ^^ That said, I'm not a modder and wouldn't have the patience to make a TC; I'm just lazy and want it made for me :p
Plus seeing as how all the current games made for this franchise appear to have sucked, it'd be nice to have something related to the series built on a game engine we know is already fun and decent.

Yes it's actually rather good. It's nice and balanced (having never tried it in Oblivion; I don't know what system it used, so it could be the same) since the ingredients you need to summon the spells are quite rare or at least the more powerful spells are. Plus you're not just handed all the books containing the recipes so if you wanted a challenge you could spend quite a while searching for the books or the spell components. The spells themselves are also quite decent; 'intense flames' gives you a nice between spell from 'flames' to 'wall of flames' and the particles are all quite polished.

The only real negatives I've found are with the various transform spells; turning into a wolf...etc is cool but if you have arrows equipped they float along the ground beneath you, so if that bug gets removed it'd be pretty damn awesome. Definitely worth trying out :thumb:

Some of the big ones I recommend are:

    Skyrim HD 2k texture
    Glowing Ore
    Sky UI
    Ultimate Follower Overhaul (highly recommended)
Project Reality - Climates of Tamriel (highly recommended)
    Leveling Destruction Perks
A quality world map - With Roads
    Statis Mesh Improvement mod
WATER - Water and terrain enhancement
    Lush Trees
Individual Guard Outfits (gives each Hold's guards unique armor)
    Nightingale Prime

WHATEVER YOU DO! DO NOT Install the mod that claims to change the cities into open-world environments. I did this and it permanently broke Riften, sending half the NPCs into a clipping, inaccessible version of it. This is not only annoying, but breaks certain quests, such as the Thieves Guild. Additionally, the blacksmith Lod is stuck forever in the alternate Riften. Even uninstalling the mod fails to fix this issue. I'm just happy it was a work in progress mod and only screwed up Riften.

You can get them back to real riften with the console: prid [refid of charachter] hit return then moveto player. While standing in Riften.

I'd be posting in here if I had the game.

Also about open cities, it's not bugged, the only problem is if you have an old saved game.

Nobody else running Frostfall? Now you can die from hypothermia, makes the trek to High Horothgar really feel like a trek.

    I'm also using:
    -House map markers
    -Open face guard helms
    -Horse armors
    -The Asteria(Dwemer Airship/home)
    -Dynamic Guards
-Lanterns of skyrim(since my ENB profile makes night really dark)
    -Mounted Follower
    -Followers can relax
    -Auto Unequip arrows
-Caliente Body Slim(and a bunch of lore friendly armors, no skimpy stuff for me)
    -Sounds of Skyrim compete
-Pound Coin mod(makes all the gold coins pound coins)
    -Race+
    -Alternate Start
    -Apachiiskyhair
    -TERA Hair
    -Better world map with roads
