I see this is for sale on Steam at 50% off £7.49. I have it in my wish list and wondered whether or not this is worth a punt. Just because a game is in my wish list does not necessarily mean I will buy it. But as yet I have not done any research on this particular game and was interestedin the views of those of you who have bought and played it?
its basically half life 1 as it should have been when they valve announced a source re-release. the creators have taken a few small liberties and had enhanced some of the level design but as a standalone FPS its exceptional. it ends as Freeman leaps into Xen as they wanted to rebuild Xen and make it "fun"
I think user mod will be the only way we ever get Half Life 3. I believe Black Mesa is well regarded. I did install it when it was free but was too distracted to play it. I wonder if it works in VR? The steam and metacritic are both very positive. That's always a good sign.
If you feel it's a mistake after purchase you can always get a refund so long as you don't play more than 2 hours. It allows you to try out a game. I love this new steam policy.
It's Half Life, of course it's worth a punt! Although if/when the Xen segment will come out is a mystery. It seems Valve time is contagious.
I am convinced. Just looked up Steam's return policy and I have 14 days. Which is useful as I am finally getting back into my second playthough of Dying Light which I stopped when I got a bit bored. But with the expansion due shortly I thought I might take it up again.
YES! YES AND YES! DID I SAY YES ENOUGH?! YES! I know you've already said you're going to give it a go, but it's brilliant. I honestly wouldn't expect to see Xen redone though, as much as I would like to. IIRC, the developers originally did this when they were students. Now they've grown up and have jobs...
Really enjoyed it, I got it for free a while back but definitely worth the current asking price I reckon.
Wasn't this available for free sometime ago? Or did they finally finish everything post-Xen? They did put in YEARS of work though, so good to see some $ for their time - and yes it's a VERY well done 'mod' - but if it was out there for free at some point surely it's still out there...? You can't recall on the internet.
There was a free release but after being pressured by the community to stick a price on it they released a tarted up version on the steam store. Iirc the free release is still available from the main site
