I decided to start building a 3D printer which is sized mostly in backwards US units. I didn't think it would be too difficult to adapt the design to sensible metric units, but I didn't check the full BOM in any great detail. Now that I've started the build and already printed ~300g of parts, I realise that I should have checked the amount of fasteners listed in the BOM. Oops. In case I give up on trying to source metric equivalents, can anyone recommend a UK/EU supplier that sells imperial fasteners? Preferably I'd like to avoid paying an arm and a leg. There's quite a range of nuts/bolts I need, and I haven't been able to find a single supplier which can do the lot (full list in BOM - I'm making the printed version, so need the extras). For example: I've found a couple of places that supply 10-32 socket head screws, but the same places do not also sell 8-32 socket head screws...
And obviously there are sellers on Amazon too. Maybe not the exact head type listed there, but oh well. It's mostly the "sourcingmap" seller, might be worth to look at them and maybe even ask for the ones they do not sell on Amazon, they might be able to source them : https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcingmap-10-32-Socket-Button-Screws/dp/B00W982CPM/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alloy-Socket-Screws-Bolts-32x1-x/dp/B00PZO4MZA/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alloy-Socket-Screws-Bolts-32x3/dp/B00PZM31K4/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcingmap-Phillips-Machine-Screws-Fasteners/dp/B0143DZQ6W/
Thanks all, links noted. This project has been sort of put on hold anyway while I sort through some personal stuff.
everything's on eBay, specifically a seller called Kay's Fasteners. Look them up once your personal stuff is sorted (all the best with that too)
There is a place near me called Rothwells that deal in all manner of fixings and stuff, and they are really helpful guys... Also, surprisingly cheap compared to FleaBay/Amazon etc... (I recently bought ~200 M6 Allen head bolts, nylock nuts and washers, and came to roughly £3) The other option could be Bapp for Bolts as they specialise in bolts and fixings etc... Hope this helps, and that your personal stuff sorts itself out Josh
You guys really don't have hardware stores with an entire isle dedicated to fasteners? -Holy sh*t. I just web searched an Ace hardware in London. They didn't even have a nail.
Yeah we do. They just have proper measurements in millimetres, rather than eigths and sixteenths . The project I intended this for is measured in imperial, so I just wanted to be sure that I could find the right parts in case there's no metric equivalent.
