Please tell me it's spyware and not Bit-tech that have decided to use the "Please wait while website is loading" video adds.

Edit: Not spyware. Avast, ESET, AdAware and AVG all report no issues.

Well that fecking worked for them. If I HAD sat and waited for it to load and watched it, it would only insure I never shop/buy whatever they were whoring.
Is it AOL in the '90s again?

I deliberately don't use an Adblocker on my 20/20 connection and 2500k machine. It wouldn't improve loading times at all and I would like to support Bit-tech with ad-views and clicks (whenever it's NOT intruding)

As for my laptop I am forced to use an AdBlocker. The puny 1,2 ghz dual core low power Intel POS is no match for flash adverts.

Hmmm, I thought I had become a victim of spyware...

I was sadly mistaken... AdTech it is :)

I've not looked at the site today from a desktop/laptop so haven't noticed, so how often are you experiencing the ad.

Is it when navigating to the forum, or main site?

The first one I saw was after I had just posted a reply, I think to the "14 days of GAME" thread. I looked away, I looked back, I was like "?!?!... did I accidentally roll-over an annoying advert?". But no advert, so, suspicious now, I came to the feedback forum, where I know fellow whiners like myself would immediately post their disdain at this new intrusive means of showing me what I can buy or whatever :)

Its total ******** though, what company in their right mind thinks... "I KNOW WHAT WILL GET US CUSTOMERS, BY TOTALLY COMMANDEERING THEIR COMPUTER SCREEN! THAT WILL ENDEAR THEM TO US"(Spoken by Brian Blessed). Its like the "webuyanycar" adverts, which PR goon looked at that and thought, "eye rape, ear rape... whats not to like?!".

what the hell is this crap popping up?

enough adverts all over the place as it is, let alone full screen bloddy pop ups.

funny thing would be if it annoys that many people, people stop visiting, advertiser pays less due to less unique views, then bit-tech get less money and lose members which made them the money in the first place and then they say we have no moar adverts, come back.

lol had to be said :p.

But yes, as you can imagine I do NOT think the full screen video adverts are a good idea. Little banners at the top are enough. Too many banners would mean that you can't auction for the ad placement anyway between companies!

I've only seen it once. When I first came to the site. At first I thought I had clicked on the wrong bookmark because i wasn't looking at the screen when it started.

I agree, banners and small video adverts are benign and acceptable.

This is totally unacceptable. Full screen ads are just plain intrusive.

Not only could it inalienate visitors to the site, but also to the sites sponsors!

OMG I clicked on go advanced for post and BAM the advert appeared again.

I do agree it's a bit ridiculous. I freaked out for a second, thinking something had hijacked my browser, then I pegged it down as an advert. Although it mostly occurs to me when I'm just puttering about the forum. Four times so far.

Chalk 5 up for me. Intrusive is not the word.

Who is responsible for this and will it change?

I had disabled ad-block on my machine and forgot all about it for a while until I happened to find myself browsing bit-tech again, and suddenly my desire to reinstate ad-block is strong... counter productive advertising strategy I'm afraid.

What the hell! Do we have to put bit-tech back on adblock like we did during the "hey let's inject shop links into people's posts" incident?

Who thought that the readers of a tech site would put up with this?

Just had one after clicking through to the forum from the main site. The only way it'll improve the CTR is if I accidentally hit the thing whilst reaching for adblock.

    :sigh:
