Not really. Moving from 4850 to 5770 is like move from 4850 to a 4870, but with with dx11 and lower power consumption. Your 4850 is more than fast enough for 720p. Don't really think you need to upgrade graphic card unless you are upgrading your montior/display to higher res.

+1 no need to upgrade if your gaming at a low res like that.

the 4850 will handle that no problem

Have you treid unlocking your chip? With the new bios sets you can relock an unlocked core giving the possibilty of a tri. Might be worth a free upgrade.

A 5770 isn't that much more powerful but why are you gaming at 1280x720 on a 26" monitor? Unless it is a 26" TV?

Probably not. I don't think you'd see much difference.

It'll be a 'HD Ready' TV. Depends how much you want Dx11, but it'll be worth saving for a 5850 really.

As far as the reviews show the Standard 5770 gives similar performance to the 4870 but im not sure the performance gains would be especially worth it in most games.

I wouldnt think it was especially worth it my self but it probably depends if you want to try dx11 or not.

Out of interest what games is the 4850 struggling in?

You want at least a 5850 to see any real difference tbh.

I'm surprised that 4850's struggling much at 720p though..

i am not supprised that his 4850 is struggaling as 720p is 1680x1080 which a 260 gtx is more suitted to than a 4850

but for you i recomend a 5850 or if you don't have the money get a second hand 260 gtx

    720p is 1280*720.

    wrong my friend very wrong.

    720p or 1280x720 = 921600 pixels
    1680x1050 = 1,764000 pixels

thats almost double the pixels so would require a card thats alot more powerful if you can only just play on 720p

and a 4850 isnt that much slower than a 260 it is but it would hardly be an upgrade from a 4850 to a 260

damn quite a big difference then in resolution

but the 260 is considerably quicker than 4850 just look at some bench marks nearly 20 frames difference in some games

Thing is you'd be paying money for a card that's of the same generation so it wouldn't be a massive improvement. Yes, it is a better card, there's no denying that, but it isn't a worthwhile investment.

Another problem with it is the increased power consumption and heat output, the 5850 comes out on top for both of those while delivering better performance.

I'm still surprised that there are performance issues with a 4850 with a 720p display. I managed Crysis on high with a 4670 and only AMD Athlon X2 5200+ at 1280x1024 so a 4850 and a Phenom II should be fine!

    My 512MB 4850 happily chugs along in games @ 1920 x 1080 (GRID, ME2, COD4).

If I was to upgrade my card it would be for a HD5850 minimum.

The only games that punish my card are Crysis and GTA IV

Whilst this is true at 1280x720 a HD4850 will be humming along quite nicely.

As an example a GTX260 will offer higher framerates but the perceptible difference when compared to the HD4850 will be non-existant.

U wouldnt really need to upgrade but the HD5770 is a very good Graphics Card for its price.
