Did this really happen again? Even after they appointed a new security chief this stinks of inside job.Either that or there security polices and audits are a f***ing shame.What are they running a 20 year old unpatched Firewall. No IDS?
I almost feel bad for them but we don't know all the details.

You need better security arrangements Sony. Good thing I have no card details saved on my PSN account .

 

I'm sure I read somewhere cant find what website now... that Sony was not hacked again but that they detected a large amount of accounts being accessed. They then disabled those accounts and people affected are getting asked to change their passwords.

So details for accounts were obtained via other means and not a direct hack on the PSN network.

I was just pointing out that PSN was not hacked though as was the case last time. User details where taken from other sources and they did detect the hacking attempt and with a lot of failed login attempts probably just had email addresses and using random password generator.

 

^^That's good to hear. I bet the people who did get hacked had their passwords as 'password' lol.

 

Everyone knows by now it's insecure to use such a password. Now they've all upgraded to password 01.

Damn it! Gotta change all my passwords now, 02 sounds good.

For a tech site I would at least hope that news is reported correctly and we do not have to depend on users to correct it.

 

And Sony's crappy security protocols fail again! Is anyone even remotely surprised by this? I'm laughing.

 

i might have been one of those that tried to log-in a few times but failed as I forgot my password. usually have it on auto sign-in so had a couple of tries before getting it correct when i had to manually re-enter it.

 

BT, any comments about the info posted here about the fact that the Sony wasn't hacked directly?
