Build Advice I'm building a computer

I'm building a computer with a price limit of £750
My main use will be photo/video editing
And what should I concentrate on upgrading? cpu, gpu etc
What hardware should I have?

That being said, video editing is quite CPU-dependent. At that price without a particularly high end graphics card, you could probably get into Intel i7 territory - 930/950. Much depends on whether you needs a monitor, windows, etc. in your budget.

Otherwise the AMD hex cores perform well at this type of task - look at something like the 1075T.

At that budget I'm thinking i5-760 build, but more information is needed. Photo/Video editing means you would likely be more concentrated on the processor than the GPU.

 

I don't need a monitor, keyboard or mouse, but I will need windows 7.
I'll be using adobe master collection.
It'll be my first build so I need help.
I could push the borders to probably £800.
I want to use intel cpu
and ati graphics card to save power, probably 6850

 

ive decided to just get a pre built PC found a decent site and i bought this from http://www.buildyourbox.co.uk/ for £916. To get the warranty and that thinks its the better way to go for me anyway

That should leave enough spare to get a decent monitor, ect.

 

i5-760, good motherboard (e.g. P7P55D-E), 6850, ~500W psu, 1TB HDD, cooler would be optional unless you overclock, 1600MHz memory, a case around £70 (e.g. Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced), and any old optical drive sounds like what you would want.

 

Does the psu make a big difference on if you get a £16 one or a £80 if they are both the same wattage

 

Heck yes it does if that cheapy £16 one is a no-name off brand. You normally want to stick with the brands that are known for their quality. A bad psu could mean your whole build getting fried, and a good quality company minimizes that chance.

CoolerMaster (sometimes)

There could be a couple more that I don't know about, but with just those 4 you should be able to find a reasonably priced PSU in any wattage that you may want.

The case is kinda up to you. What you don't want to get is a big sealed metal box to trap all the hot air inside and turn your computer into an oven. If you're overclocking, case airflow is especially important. Things to look at when buying a case (no particular order):

-Material used to make it

Plastic is light and cheap but it doesn't dampen noise as well as steel which is heavy and expensive​

-Solidity (or how sturdy it is)

You don't want a case that's going to fall apart​

-Cable cleanup

Does the case include some things to help messy cables?​

-Airflow

Not to be confused with amount of fans. You can have a million fans on a case, but if all the fans end up doing is swirl the hot air around then it's not very effective.​

-Extras

Fan controls, front USB ports, a side panel window, other junks like that​

-Aesthetics

Do you want your case to be a prettyful pink or an awe inspiring black? Is it just a metal box or does it look like a monster?​

-Form Factor

Does your motherboard fit ​

-Expansion Slots and Drive bays

Is there enough expansion slots? Do you have enough 3.5" and 5.5" drive bays? Do the reviews say that the drive bay fittings rattle?​

-Space

If you want to get a 1.5 foot long graphics card will it fit?​

I like to leave case choice mostly up to the person because it's something that's fun to pick and usually can't be botched up too badly. Most people are sensible enough not to get a case that's too small for their motherboard . You decide what you want.
