anyone know of a free program that will allow me to join a number of video files together to make 1 long one rather than 3 or 4 short ones without losing quality?
I have seen a couple of programs for £25-50 ish but really have a smallish number to do and it wouldn't be worth me paying tbh:thumb:

I tend to use Avidemux because I use it for other small editing jobs anyway.

Just drag and drop the files in in order, or all at once if they are in filename order already. Then save the video to whatever format you wish.
If the video files are the same type you can select copy for video and audio output. That way you can join and even change the container format without re-encoding.
