So basically a guy bought an aging car and the engine went kaput. Took it to Mercedes who wanted $57k to fit a new engine so decided to rebuild his existing engine for around $1500 in parts (he got a huge discount from $4000).

Wouldn't be surprised if you guys have seen it as it's been making the news. I used to read GRM magazine when I lived out in the USA. Mates were all big fans.

It's 75 pages but it's a damn good read if you like your engine tech pron fix :)

haha it's funny you say that ! Many years ago my brother brought home this pristine Haiter? petrol lawn mower. "Don't you f*****g touch it !" he says. So I thought bugger you then I won't go near it, and you just resigned yourself to cutting the grass.

Any way, a few days later I asked him why the grass was only half cut. He mumbled something but I managed to decipher the word "ceased.. forgot to put oil in".

I took the engine apart, got down to the piston and then put a piece of wood on it and smacked it one. Bingo bongo, turned over like a champ.

I went to my brother and said "See that lawnmower I wasn't supposed to touch? well it's running again". haha the look on his face ! it was like total disbelief.

He forgets I used to have a Vespa and always had it in bits.

    Nah.
I've a second hand one in my shed, I've had it for the past 12 years or so and do nothing other than put fuel in it and sharpen the blade once a year, always starts with no more than 3 pulls after being laid up all winter.

    Mowers? Really?

Can we just take a moment's pause here to recognise what a ridiculously awesome and preposterous vehicle an R63 is?

I think it's more the engine that's the star of the show. But yeah, it's one hell of an engine :)
