If we have one thing to thank Christianity and Capitalism for, it's the ever-increasing range of chocolatey goodness available to us as soon as the Halloween stuff has been cleared from the shelves in preparation for Easter. As a fan of mince pie reviews from yesteryear I thought we could have a thread for those who want to share...their feedback, if not necessarily their chocolate :p

So, whether it's a newcomer or an old favourite, tell us which calories you find the most satisfying investment this Easter, and which we should hang on a cross.

    I'll start us off...

    Nestle Milky Bar Mini Eggs
    [IMG]

Some people seem to be religiously opposed to white chocolate. I'm not, so I thought I'd give these a try. These are milkybar white chocolate encased in a hard sugar shell. Darn hard. Too hard. A little'un would struggle getting in to these. Once you're in, you kinda wonder why you bothered. The overall sweetness from the shell and chocolate combined overpowers the taste of the white chocolate. I won't be getting these again - 3/10

    Kinder Mini Eggs
    [IMG]
In my head, Kinder chocolate is amazing. This is because I haven't had a Kinder Egg since I was about six, but I remember there being something different about the taste, in a good way. All I've had since then is Kinder Bueno, which has wafer and a soft hazelnutty filling, which masks the taste of the chocolate.

I saw them and took a punt, not noticing that these eggs also have a soft hazelnutty filling. This was a bit of a downer, 'cos I was hoping for a solid hit of pure Kinder chocolate to take me back nearly 30 years, and instead the hazelnuttiness kinda dominates. That said, I like hazelnut, so not a major beef, but it just makes them taste like any other chocolate & hazelnut combo, nothing special. And having to peel the foil off each egg is a bit of a pain - 6.5/10

Interestingly, the most satisfying experience was when I put one milkybar mini egg and one Kinder mini egg in my mouth together. The softness from Kinder and the double-hard shell from Milkybar seemed to balance quite well.

Amen. I love Easter simply because of these little nuggets of pure amaze. I wish they were available all year round. Perfect shell surrounding tasty chocolate.

Lindor/Lindt is lovely, in small doses. Too much and it's way way too sweet. Their Easter bunnies are a better buy.

Ok so I cried myself to sleep a coupla nights after this. I was convinced this thread would take off here, I thought it combined some Bit-tech favourites, but nobody chose to take me up on the review idea. It's fair enough. It was lame. It was nowhere near Easter. I hadn't thought it through. A little piece insida me has broken, but I'm dealing with it.

So as anyone should who has seen an idea flop on its face like a penguin trying to stand on tiptoes, I'm gonna carry on regardless...

    Galaxy Caramel Mini Eggs

These were fine. But nothing special. As near as you could get to just eating a regular bar of Galaxy Caramel, so a bit of a let down in that there was no twist other than the shape. Perhaps I'm expecting too much - 3/5

    Smarties Mini Eggs

I love Smarties. Smarties have a special place in my life. So it's with regret that I have to report the mini eggs are a let down, reason being that they're just not as good as a regular tube of smarties. The shell on these was hard and lacking in texture to be able to confidently bite into (very much like the Milkybar eggs reviewed above). They did soften up quickly after leaving them in my mouth, but sometimes I want to be able to just chomp straight in. Also, I think the ratio of chocolate to shell is greater in the eggs than normal smarties, to their detriment IMO as I'm a big fan of Smartie shell. These eggs just don't compete with the next entry... - 2.8/5

    Cadbury's Mini Eggs

Let's face it, other than the Cream Egg, these are the bad boys that everyone else only dreams of emulating. However, I did find that after eating 4/5 of a tube in one hit I wasn't as delighted as I was expecting to be. Perhaps it was just 'too much of a good thing' - having them in great quantity in one go can't replicate how good just one or two taste when you get them on top of your slice chocolate Easter cake. Let that be a lesson to the gluttonous among us - 4/5

And so, it is with some surprise that I can announce something that's just stuck it's nose in front this time round, ahead of the classic mini egg, and that is...

    Cadburys Daim Mini Eggs

I'm not sure I've ever eaten a Daim bar. So as it was, these eggs came as a treat to me. Those crunchy almond caramel pieces are in just the right ratio and for whatever reason I found I enjoyed eating these more than any of those above. Not outstanding necessarily, but definitely ahead of the others - 4.2/5

Now, in terms of my regular supermarket, I've pretty much exhausted the eggs at the lower end of the market. If this thread had more followers I'd be tempted to start on the pricier stuff, but as it hasn't, I will instead diversify to all chocolate confectionery, and amend the thread title.

    Cadbury's Caramel Nibbles

Of all the chocolate I've had recently, these have been the best. Seriously, if you like Cadbury's chocolate, and caramel fillings, I'd like to hear what's better than these. I'm not a particularly big fan of the Cadbury's Caramel Bar, but there's something about the oversized button shape that nails the intangible combination of quantity and ratio. Scrumptious - 4.6/5

Cadbury's Dairy Milk with Crunchy Bits

Disappointed. Significantly less enjoyable than the conventional Crunchy bar. The crunchy bits are just too small, the ratio of honeycomb to chocolate is off. Did get me thinking though, they really need to release some Crunchy Mini Eggs - an egg with 2-3mm of chocolate on the outside, filled with solid honeycomb... - 3.1/5

I got bored with Easter delights three months ago, six months after they hit the supermarket shelves. I'm back on the Halloween sweets now, mince pies again next month.

If you're into your Scheiße I hear a bag of Revels taken as suppositories is supposed to be wonderful, joyous, fountains of fun. Just take them about half an hour before you want to play :worried:

    +1.

When it comes to chocolate, my feeling is: go Belgian or go home. Back in the Netherlands I could just buy Cote d'Or off the shelf. The UK doesn't know what proper chocolate is (but I get by with Artisan Chocolate and Moser Roth. Hotel Chocolate isn't what it used to be, sadly).

I wish they'd start selling the following in the UK again:

In the meantime, there is only one type of chocolate you need at Easter (or at any other time):

I've seen a few of those Leondias stores in the UK recently. Good chocolate, but I imagine too much would ruin it for me.

I was thinking about this when doing my chocolate shopping last night - why haven't they made an egg-shaped chocolate orange yet? (or if they have, why can't I see it in the shops?) Seems kinda obvious.
