Christmas is coming and I've got a gift idea for someone and it involves engraving her name on a piece of stainless steel. I have access to a mill with which to do this, I just need software that will make engraving the name easier.

There are plenty of little applications that will convert text to g-codes but the problem comes with depth of the lettering. I'll be engraving on an arc in the Z dimension which can be defined as a function of X, but I don't have the software to do this. Does anyone know of a free or shareware application that will help me model the engraving in three dimensions? I have access to both NX and AutoCAD if there are plugins available for either one of these. I'd prefer NX because I'm more familiar with it than 3D modeling in autoCAD, but I can learn what I have to to get this done.

    Thanks :)
