In a blatant rip off of a highly successful thread on the HardOCP team forum I thought a thread like this might help to spur on some more competition and upgrading within our team. In short, if we add another 360 GPUs to our current output (each producing on average 4k ppd) we can get to #1 in the team rankings and really help out the project. I'll kick start things off by saying that I added today: 1 x GeForce GTX 260 When you add more GPUs, subtract the number from the total and post the new total in size '7', colour 'red', in 'bold', at the bottom of your post. 359
To provide some continuity between this thread and the one on the old Custom PC forums I'll summarise as follows: After 17 pages of discussion the countdown had reached: 154 with hoistawheelie being the last user to add a single GainwardGeForce 260GTX 216 core.
151 I've added a 9600 GT to the cause with my work machine. I'll see what I can do about getting a couple more GPUs in there as well...
i guess realy it could of been left at 360 agane, as we do need more then 150 video cards to catch up to overclockers and other 2 teams, allso mit be better to just put the number up 1 per user or pc not per video card, we need GTX260s (i ahve not added my video cards to this list)
138 GTX285, but it has a really annoying whining sound whenever I start up F@H on it. Going to mess around with the clock speeds a bit, but didn't have time to last night.
If it is not fan noise, it'll be due to the fact nvidia is still using analogue regulation circuitry on the cards. Singing or whining is card specific, but is less noticeable with a well regulated power supply. I doubt that you'll reduce it much by underclocking the card.
Only a 8600GT but i plan for an upgrade in next two weeks 136 [folding]un=Norfolk'N'Good&t=35947[/folding]
Indeed, underclocking (and overclocking) did nothing. It was a suggestion given to someone else with this issue, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The PSU is pretty well regulated (TT Toughpower 850w) and the whining isn't as bad as it could be, but the way I'm set up the GPU is only 3 feet from my head and on the same horizontal line. Also, it seems to go away completely when F@H isn't hammering it so hard. Left it running last night, woke up in the morning to no whine. A couple seconds after I woke it up it started again. /derailment
