    Hello everyone,

My little brother wants to upgrade his gpu on quite a limited budget, He's fairly new to gaming so he's upgrading from my old GT620. It's a cheapo 1080p tft, and a Phenom 6 core chip, so he doesn't have high expectations.

Which GPU would you recommend for him for £70 absolute max? I personally am more familiar with nvidia's offerings, but we don't have a preference for either nvidia or amd. I was thinking we'd get more for our money if we bought a card from a previous generation?

    Thanks,
    Jack

A 2nd hand gtx 560 Ti is about as good as you will get sub 70.

Maybe a 570 if you hawk about on ebay.

Used 570s have been going for exactly £70.

Is new a compete bust? Kind of prefer not to shop used with gpus, you never know where they've been.

Anything sub 100 does tend to be rather meh new.

Wouldn't settle for anything less than a HD 7850 / 650 Ti new which is around the 100 mark.

Less than that you start to get really shelve off in performance comparatively.

Hey ShakeyJake! I might have a 7850 for sale for £70 in the next week or so. Its an XFX 'Ghost' Edition (red and silver cooler). Shout me if you're interested. Its been in my LAN rig for about a year so only had occasional use, and happy to help with warranty etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about buying used from guys on this forum. You know they're well looked after and have someone to go back to if you need help with any remaining warranty on the card. Used cards on Gumtree, eBay however, you takes your chances.

I agree with the above too. If you've got a limited budget, buy a more powerful used card than a weaker new one else you'll get little to no gain and be £70 out of pocket for your troubles.

You know I used to buy from this forum but then I bought a gpu and power supply from he infamous sonicgroove that never showed up. It's unreasonable that one bad transaction should put me off though, I've had loads of good ones.

Parge: I know nothing about AMD cards! What does everyone else think for that card and price? Feel free to pm to spare Parge's feelings! :thumb:

£70 is a bloody good price for 7850, and Parge looks after his gear.

    The 7850 tramples all over a 560Ti - comparison
