Hi everyone, I'm on on a very tight budget, I'm trying to stick to an average of £50 for each component, it's more of a challenge really and I've been looking at the options for a Pentium G3258 overclock, the Asus Z97-K motherboard looks like the most sensible future proofing option with the inclusion of an M.2 connection. Is the Asus Z97-K any good at overclocking ? How long could it take for the Asus Z97-K to drop below £55.00 ?
I'm now looking at teaming up a G3258 with an Asus ROG board as it seems Custom PC Magazine are very fond of this range of motherboards. I just can't decide whether to go for the Ranger or the Hero... Oh well so much for my £50 average... Using my existing CX500 PSU will help though and I also have a 7600GT graphics card I could use until my next pay day...
Honestly, if you're on a budget, get a reasonable H97 motherboard. They can overclock and have about 90% of the features that Z97 boards do.
I would follow this advice in this instance, especially when on a budget. For the vast majority it'll easily suffice.
My tight budget build is finally coming together... a Battleship Grey Corsair 230T with 120mm front blue led fans and 140mm top white led fans... im trying to get the case looking like the engine of a Star Destroyer... a Corsair CX600 PSU I purchased in 2012... an Asus ROG Maximus VII Z97 Ranger motherboard with an easily overclockable Pentium G3258 Anniversary CPU and a Silverstone Argon AR01 cooler... a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD... and a Sapphire Vapor-X OC 270X 2GB GPU... I'll post the full price after Cashback and some pics asap... Cheers, Simon
