not sure if anyone else suffered last night, but malwarebytes released a bad update last night that borked machines. I had to do a system restore as I was unable to get into safe mode. more info on a fix is available here if you work in support, expect a few calls maybe

I found malwarebytes went off the boil a while ago, though I do have it on a machine so will refrain from the update.
the dodgy update has been removed from the server, so it's safe to update now, it's just last night took out 2 of my machines as they were on when the update came in (pro version, as in paid for always running) it basically quarantined loads of windows and program files, making the machine unusable and or unbootable, I had to do a system restore, as you cant get into a windows 8 machine in safe mode without loading windows first :-s
