Why would it be illegal to have a copy of it if they are they copyright owners of the track anyway?

Granted it's a bit of a balls up they used a encoded version from outside the realms of the company.

It wouldn't be, I guess. But the copy itself is still illegal.

Does this mean that they can now no longer pursue Ares13 for damages if they have included their "release" in their official software. Maybe they can now charge ubisoft for the encoding.

Potentially the encoding could have even been created using pirated encoding software, so ubisoft may indeed be breaking the law by using the soundtrack.

True, I think Ubisoft would be able to use it legally but it is just not a very good idea to resell it. Alarmingly it opens the legal can of worms whereby those that have purchased the pirated files legitimately from Ubisoft may find themselves the target of any effort to take action against those that downloaded pirated Ubisoft content in general. Seeds of doubt over the source of Ubisoft content could also serve as a defence used for those accused of pirating software from Ubisoft too (I will not be testing this one in court tho) so I would upgrade that to full balls up.

Wonder how the person who torrented said music is going to be dealt with? Possibility for getting sacked?

They need to make the soundtrack have an always on internet connection to play, only way to stop the employees downloading!

    WTF ?
How this could happen is just unbelievable.

They should maybe get a fine for "re-selling pirated content", even if they do own the original copyright.
Maybe they'll check things over a bit better before unleashing it upon the public.
    What if it had a virus/trojan ?

I love the NO-CD crack gaffe. It's hilarious considering how anal Ubisoft were with piracy.

If ubisoft used this, surely they're charging for Pirated material, which is illegal ain't it? Also how did they get it in the first place, isn't that illegal as well?
