    Hey Guys/Gals,

    I know there's Prime95 for when you want to overclock, but does anyone mind listing the other tools to assist in a successful overclock?

    I did :search: but couldn't find a definitive list so to speak.

    Coretemp = check CPU temps
    CPU-Z = confirm ghz and RAM timings speed etc
    furmark = stressing GPU
    GPU-z = checking GPU clocks and Volts

    Benchmark suites such as custom PC one or 1 of the thousands out there (need to make sure what your doing is increasing performance lol)

    OCCT is good for a quick 1 hour check. Has some nice features.

    And is free btw.

    dont forget intel burn test, the official CPU stress tester designed by intel (also free).

    Funny you should say that, as I'm waiting for my first issue and free gift to arrive now :). Although not sure why it takes 3 months to receive my first issue though....

    OCCT uses Linpack (the 'engine' of the Intel Burn Test) as one of its test. It also includes the same engine as CPU-Z and HWMonitor, meaning that it gives you all the stats you could possibly need.

    Yeah OCCT is pretty complete. I usually prefer the Intel Burn Test over Prime95 though for CPU, it seems to be quite a bit more stressful and usually gets chips much, much hotter than Prime.

    Hey guys,

    During the week I plan to have a stab at overclocking my 2500k using the BitTech guide. But I have just one question:

    Once I've followed the guide and carried out the bios changes, is it a case of then just stressing the CPU out with say Intel Burn and monitoring the temps with say Core Temp and hope they don't go past 70 degrees? (not sure of the magic figure tbh)?

    Cheers.

    In a nut shell yes. Find out what the recomended temp figure is and run Prime 95, OCCT or another to stress the CPU.
    You are not just looking at temp though you want to see if your OC is stable and you don't get errors with the stress test.

    Thanks, Booga.

    Would 70 degree C be the figure I don't want my CPU temps to surpass you think?

    Mine does under load all the time. I always believed 80 was the thermal limit.

    Ah right, thanks for that Warren.

    I ran Intel Burn and the temps didn't go above 51 degrees C so hopefully a 1ghz overclock shouldn't bump the temps up 30 degrees.

    Everest or Aida64 as a general system monitoring program - I can't believe they haven't been mentioned. I have Everest feeding quite a bit of info to my alphacool LCD screen, which is invaluable when I'm doing fullscreen benching/gaming etc. and need to keep track of temps:

    Everest & Aida64 have everything, spec info, temp/usage monitoring, benches you name it, but as far as I remember the full packages aren't freeware.
