Following a recent thread I had on noise, I have found that a lot of what I get is coming from my pump a Lang DDC. In that thread a D5 pump was mentioned, but I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on pumps for silent operation?
I have a Swiftech MCP 35X pwm, which is essentially a Laing DDC with a bit more power. To silence it I've mounted it on a piece of foam used on bricklayers boards for washing the tiles. The foam is extremely soft, yet sturdy, so it absorbs almost any noice. I've also thought about getting one of them D5 pumps with different levels, but I've always liked the DDC due to its small size and decent price
Rather than an entirely new pump, you could get a shoggy sandwhich, which is a retail version of the ghetto mod Vogen has. Should quieten things up nicely. p.s. Vogen - ghetto mod is in no way meant as an insult. I loves me a ghetto mod I used to have a res suspended in my case with an old shoe lace.
Personally, I'll be getting a D5 soon. I don't think there is much benefit to a DDC anymore apart from it's compact size. The D5's are meant to be quieter but you could also try Vognen's suggestion, that would be a lot cheaper!
Haha no worries! I know that it's a bit ghetto, but I could snatch it for free where I worked OR pay quite a bit of money for a professional shoggy sandwich, and the only difference would be the colour of the foam
My pump isn't mounted anywhere, it's hanging in the air. I have a Corsair Obsidian 800D, there are two pipe holes at the bottom shelf which the PSU is under. My pipes go through that and the pump hangs in the air... Maybe there is more to my problem than I think?
Maybe a worn out pump? How long have you had it? Edit: Also how much is the pump working with? What rads are you using? I found my Laing DDC 18 W to struggle pushing water through 2 x gfxs, cpu and two alphacool rads, so I had to install a second one.
I have one dual rad, CPU block, GFX block and a bay res. I have had the pump maybe 4 years or something now, maybe a little longer but my PC until the last month or so was only ever on when I use it. But I never remember having a quiet PC with the watercooling...
Yeah alright, I'm a bit at a point where I can't help further, but to me it sounds like it's just a worn out pump
