lol, saw that on OCn, i think it's just a hidden folder in windows search index for start menu quick searches.

therefore i don't see the point in creating such a folder, much easier to just do: Win key --> type the stuff you want.

Unless you don't know what stuff you want, then knowing all the options available might be helpful.

Or if you're just setting up someone's computer for the first time - instead of having to monkey up and down the masses of control panel categories.

In case anyone is stupid enought to try it on Vista 64, don't, as when I staggered in drunk the other night, saw this on CNet and thought I would try it, whilst not reading the bit about it crashing Vista 64.

What basically happened (or happened) is as soon as you rename the folder, all the icons on your desktop start flashing and basically the computer becomes inoperable. You can still shut it down though. It also exhibits the same behaviour in safe mode, and you can't access system restore through startup (recovery) to fix it !

But it works fine on my Win 7 64bit lappy !

    Godmode?
It's just a different way of viewing control panel (with fewer options).

yeah, it doesn't actually give you more options. Just different way of accessing them.

The different way of accessing them is by not going through context menus hidden throughout the OS. I think this should be a standard!

The folder name can be changed by changing the text before the "."

Can't use that folder name in my win7 64bit. It doesn't like the symbols.

what I would like is a way to sort the icons in the control panel vertically instead of horizontally. This pisses me off because every time I search for something it takes me 10times longer than usual because things aren't at the same place depending on the size of the window

Cant you just change the view mode to small or large icons? It wont change it to a vertical layout but it will keep them all listed in alphabetical order enableing you to find things quicker.
