Hi guys. Looking for a general use laptop for my stepdad. Main use will be typically web browsing, watching movies etc and VERY RARELY, some video editing with Sony Vegas and the odd brush up here and there on photoshop. Not expecting great screen quality but Full HD would be a bonus. Anyways, the main things he's looking for most certainly is:

CPU: At least i3 or equivalent
    RAM: 8GB
HD: 1TB standard will do (SSD is a bonus)
Doesn't want to open it (i.e adding 4GB of RAM to a 4GB laptop or adding SSD etc).

Had a small browse on Johw Lewis and picked These Four. The Lenovo 300 packs an i5 but is £50 overbudget

This is also £50 over budget (£399 with my student discount), 6GB of RAM vs the 8GB he'd want but packs an Full HD screen and an M2 256GB SSD. Hmmmmm

    This, all day this.

1366 on a 15" screen is downright painful and the SSD will make a world of difference vs an extra 2GB of RAM. If the memory is the end of the world, it appears that it's upgradeable, and an 8GB stick is ~£30. Yes, it has to be opened, but it leaves it as an option down the line if it becomes the limiting factor.
