Cool nice find, thats basically the same mod I use on VMware Workstation to get all 4 cores working, never used to work on Player so must be a new version out or a beta :D

If you run NotFred then people get on this because you will pop out more points running 1 x SMP-4 instance than you will with 2 x SMP - instances :thumb:

Looks to be 3.0 Beta. :D

And just as a question. The person says they use Bal3wolfs VM??

Looked for info but found very little. Is it like Notfred? or is it used with a VM Ubuntu?

    Ok. Tested and confirmed.

VM Player x2 (2000ppd+1900ppd) on a q6600 with 2 cores on each and both running 1920pt WU.

    VM Player 3.0 Beta x1 (4600ppd) 4 cores on 1920pt WU :)

    700ppd jump. Very nice :D

    Correction 4750ppd for 4cores :thumb:

    VM Player x2 3770.51 ppd on a q6600
VM Player 3.0 Beta x4582 ppd

    Now i'm impressed

you don't need to set the cores up in notepad
    Do it via the VMP

    Running 2 x GPU 8000+ ppd each
2 x Notfreds on the new version
    New - 4300 ppd each - 4 cores each
    Old - 2714 ppd each - 2 cores each

and your right Mike my system is still very responsive
this is looking good & well worth a try

If you just have the VMP open
    Not folding...
Highlight your file on left and change info in settings then

thats the way i did it..:D

Just wondering do you still have to run them in low priority mode or just leave as normal.I am trying the new VMware-player-3.0.0-203739 and I have set it 2 run on 4 cpu's per vmware as I have 2 running on this

It seems to be producing the same PPD on normal......... *fingers crossed*

    The first Q6600 (4600ppd) is running a 3.2 (8x400)

The second Q6600 (3800ppd) is running at stock 2.4

I Have been away for a week and have arrived home to find everthing has been ticking away nicley without hiccup, this 4 core setup sounds really good, but have any issues reared their ugly heads in the last few days?

If not I'm gonna have it on all by Monday. :thumb:

    Nice find.

    No issues so far.

All still ticking along at the same PPD

    Q6600@3.2 giving 4500-5000PPD :jawdrop:
    Q6600@2.4 giving 3800-4300PPD :thumb:

Thats with both the machines also running GPU clients aswell.

never used VM for folding before , is there an preset up notfred VM around that i could use i am ok ish with linux but do not want to get into to many config command lines that i need to type out (linux programmers need to simply there command line based programs)

i never really ran SMP before found it pointless due to the lack of PPD i got from them 1200 1700 ppd QX6850 3.3ghz and PHonem II 3ghz 1000 1200 ppd,

but you lot seem to be getting like above 3000PPD min in 4 thread notfred and min 2000 PPD just on dual core notfreds (per notfred 2 threads, 4000 or more 2 notfreds)

    (the i5 is quite inpressive getting 8800 PPD from an I5 750 {1920 workunit})

could some one just pack there VM up in an rar and send it me ? msn , skype, yahoo

Get the new vmware here http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ you need 2 register an email 1st ...dead easy then download this http://reilly.homeip.net/folding/folding.zip .
Extract the folding file into a folder ie folding 1 and folding 2 if you run both ,Run the virtual machine and set it up for four cores then run each vmware I have found running 2 of them @ low priority works better than one on this machine .....Giving me around 4800-5200 now .....I am sure with a bit more playing I could get more from it
