Wanted as a change from P35, I'm having problems with S3 standby and it's doing my nut in as it's in a HTPC.
Currently got a E2180 but may get a Q6600 shortly.
    Mild overclocking
    RELIABLE
    4 RAM slots
more USB ports on the back, the better.
That's about it for requirements really. Lower price is better although not restrictive.

Not after the fastest thing in the world, just reliability and a few overclocking options.

    P45 a good choice?

Any of the P5Q Range or the DFI LanParty DK P45 T2RS (basic, plus and JR) or maybe a Gigabyte rendition.

Personally, I'm about to go for the P5Q Pro.

i'd recommend a gigabyte board myself, i've got an EP45-DS3L, good for o\c, ive got my E6400 (stock 2.13ghz) upto 2.664ghz with no trouble form the board, just waiting on my aftermarket cooler to arrive before i push it up further. Very stable boards, with the bios update (F8 revision or later) and with support for all the major CPU's, so no trouble with your planned CPU upgrade, but it is only a single PCIe slot board, the DS3P version is a Crossfire board, on just a tad more expensive

    Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L
Went for this on for my mates rig, P45 is not needed if you don't used Crossfire. TBH its not worth paying the difference when the P43 chipset is the same but without the second pci-e slot. It regesters as P45 under cpu-z.

Its clocked my mates E5200 @ 3.56 using the stock BIOS/out of the box.
