GF of 8 years recently bought me a Nexus 7 (2013) Friend gave me £50 out of the blue because I came to his aid. (bad wiring loom on his Polo) I spent the day re-running fresh loom. This is the second time it's happened but different location. Neighbour is a recruiter and has been trying to help me find work, he's cut his over head off the process. Truth is, if anything comes about I'll find him a nice gift. Oh and the GF just gave me £100 to buy a replacement PAS pump for my car, along with a few other bits, so that'll be fun (Sad thing is, it will be fun for me...). Generally if you help people they will help you back, so wont but it's better to be happy than cursing everyone.
+1 for feck all... I'm surrounded by eedjits who expect me to perform miracles for them for free [often to my financial or other detriment]... and if I even register on their list of priorities, I'm at or near the bottom...
I'm an incredibly generous person but after so many years of doing nice things out of the bottom of my heart, without a single nice thing in return; I've become a very bitter and cynical person who doesn't bother anymore. That's what happens when people take advantage.
Also this [pretty much]... Actually that's probably a bit harsh... I have been on the winning end of a couple of of the game giveaways on here... I've also been on the giving end... so my generosity isn't completely wrecked and the 'having nice things happen' chitties haven't dried up completely...
My generosity is completely ruined. I have kids and I love them so i'm generous to them; I don't have a choice there. Everyone else can pretty much go to hell. I don't have anything to give away either. I just used to do nice things, fix a computer, draw a design etc. Then people would expect it; I wouldn't even be compensated for say.... bus fare. Then when I asked for a payment in exchange for my services, people would still try and get out of paying me. I won't even do things for my own family anymore because they just take advantage. My world view is shattered really. I don't even have many friends to begin with. I then realised how many friends I actually had when I stopped doing things for free. It turns out not many.
Colleague gave me napppys which I left at work twice he probably now thinks I'm a dick ;( Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 4
A coworker offered to buy me a soda while he was headed to the vending machine earlier. It was tempting to say nothing, but after a little reflection there are little things to appreciate.

Got taken out to lunch by a friend after I baby-sat her 3month old whilst she went to a eye appointment. Really wasn't necessary as I'm happy to play with the kid for half hour for free.
This, but perhaps a little more dilute. I've been taken advantage of so terribly over the years - but I will still do things for true friends. I've had too many 'you know who your real friends are' moments!
