    Guys,

I currently have a couple of XEON Servers fol;ding away for me, However as i normally only us a single processor machine am not sure the best way forward with these.

They currently have server 2008 R2 on the using the V7 client with 16 cores enabled for folding (they need to do some less stressful normal work to)

So what is the best way to set these up. The older guides all suggest 2 clients (1 per Physical CPU) but with the V7 Client this dowes not appear to be overly simple (unless it is just the "add" button on the adv and expert modes of course but only seems to show as one client in HFM)

Any ideas would be much appreciated

    Matt

You only need to run one client these days, and it uses multiple cores automatically, so the default setup of v7 does most of the work for you.
Depending on the speed of the processors, you might want to add one of the -bigXXX flags (XXX being 'adv' for 'big advantage' and 'beta' for 'big beta', though the latter is really designated for official beta testers ....)

    Cheers Doc

helps a bit as all the info i have found seems to be around V6 clients
For BIGADV what is the minimum processor speed or is it around cores?

    All the machines are 24 cores total 2 @ 2.53Ghz and 2 @ 2.8Ghz

Again apologies for nooby questions is new ground for me

Sorry to say Bigadv is only available on Linux at the moment so you will have to settle with running the v7 client on server 2008 but with the v7 client you will pick up the A4 cores and they will give you a 10% bonus :)

    Cheers Guys,

Was just wondering what to do with a 4p Opteron box I have....
The CPU's only run at 2100Mhz though so may not up to it (although is 32 cores)
Just need to get it up and stable that's all

    Give it to me?

    Few questions first:

Is this to be used solely for folding?
    Are you comfortable with linux?

If yes to both, then the following is a step-by-step for putting on Ubuntu and the Kraken:
