Not sure if it is just me or is bit-tech getting attacked by adverts recently including popups in the middle of the window?

If it is just me then I guess it is time for a virus scan :wallbash:

    +1 for adblock.

Never got round to whitelisting BT although given how intrusive and resource intensive some of the ads on here are, I'm not that inclined to go do it now...

I've used Adblock for the last year or so; no ads on Bit-tech here.

    Adblock.

I disable it on sites such as web-comics where the creators deserve to be paid. There is, however, a limit to the amount of spam one can put up with. When half the page is moving, flashing, shouting at you or popping up/under, then it's time to say 'no'.

    Adblock :D

You installed anything lately? I installed a codec pack a little while back which installed a nice ad spammer program that I didn't catch. Was throwing up some popups, I only noticed because Opera was unaffected by it. Just had to uninstall it from the PC.

    Woo for adblock :D

I particularly like the stats - like mine says it has blocked a total of nearly 27,000 ads

Yeah. I never used to use ad blockers on BT, but the last 12 months or so? I've had to.

I'd have been driven potty otherwise.

I use AdBlock, but I leave the option to display non-intrusive ads enabled. If B-T were to use such non-intrusive ads, then I would happily see them. Otherwise, all are blocked.

After a fresh windows install I was reminded what BT looks like without AdBlock :sigh:
It was back on in a matter of seconds :)

Its a bizarre thing to see, such a unanimous pro-adblock from an online community. Unfortunately, it is a necessity in order to use the site(and not have an epileptic fit induced).

It says a lot about Dennis Publishing advertising policy.

Me too I'm afraid. I get that sites need to advertise to stay afloat in these hard economic times, but when the site becomes difficult/impossible to use then I'm afraid the ads are the first thing to go.

Plenty of others manage to get the balance right , although these days I have nothing whitelisted since I can't be bothered to spend any time configuring things.
