Now then guys/gals a bit of advice pls I have just set up vmware via http://www.vmware.com/download/player/ done installed reebooted.Then set up http://reilly.homeip.net/folding/vm.html 2 folders on my desktop I made folding 1 and 2 Run both of them on a q6700 4 gig ram xp 64 and loged in via ip and changed user name and team to 35947 cpu is running @ 100% and showing its using 2 gig of ram @mo I have also set cpu priority to low for both vmware and I am running the normal xp gpu version for my 9800 gt ....all looks ok and pc seems to be running flat out any tips or have I missed any thing I am very very new to all this vmware and get very blond moments trying this so please give me some assurance it at least looks like its set up correct ... If all looks ok I will instal on my over quad ...Many many thnks in advance
Looks spot on to me mate I run like 9 of these lol Is FahMon coming back with between 2000-2500+ ppd per instance? (depending on CPU speed of course)
Erm well I can't seem 2 get fahmon to work with it tried 2 tell it its on a virtual machine but stays black I have tried the same ip address that you set up the config for it but to no avail
Well its now set up on 2 machines other is a q6600 4 gig and 1 gpu also running gtx 285 .But what I do see is odd that the other machine in task manager is only using 1.6 gig of memory and this one is hitting 2 gig could be the 285gtx vs the 9800 .......dunno realy
the data folder for the VM is \\ipaddress\c\etc\folding\1\ the ip address will be show in the vm window when it finishes booting. other than that looking good
Just wondering every time I restart the vm do I have 2 login or just leave it as it does not seem to do anything when you start it . What I mean is just reset them and it says lgin as root with no password then fold-b9dc login do I just leave it on its merry way or type "root" to start it ??????? Oh and I tried that \\ipaddress\c\etc\folding\1\ and fahom just says and I have it set as ... \\192.168.11.1\C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\folding 1\folding.vmx\ This must be wrong I have ticked the box saying virtual client
you don't have to login it will start working without logging in. it looks like you are trying to connect it to the local machine by the path. each of the VM's will connect and get an IP of its own. in the screenshot you posted about half way down the VM screen is the IP address of the VM drop that into FAH like so \\192.168.11.18\c\etc\folding\1\
I have issues with FAHMON and my VM's too. But I found that a reboot and a manual entering of the VM address as dark_avenger said sorts it out. Just enter all info and reload all. Give it a few mins and you should see it turn yellow. I also have to reboot every couple of days as I 'lose' my VM's in FAHMON and no matter what I do they stay black until after a reboot. Haven't figured this out yet. Don't think it's a network issue as I 'lose' them on the machine running FAHMON. But as I said a reboot and an adjustment of the IP's in FAHMON ( if they have changed ) sorts it.
Ok after a night of folding I have noticed that fahmon is showing that my gpu ppd have dropped big style so I have tried just running one instance of vmware and set affinity to run on just 2 cores and the gpu ppd goes back up .Running two instances of vmware seems 2 cripple the gpu any thoughts ????
The default behaviour of the VM/Notfreds is that when it downloads and starts another WU, the priority goes back to 'normal' which deprives the GPUs of processor time. The solution can be found here http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=2026373#post2026373
Your GPU will be running FahCore_11 or FahCore_14 or similar. Try setting the priority of that to real time.
Ive not found that to be right mate, the vmware.vmx instances need to be set to low priority but once its set to low, unless you restart the VM it will stay on low work unit after work unit - I have a couple of machines that I manually set vmware.vmx to low and weeks later its still on low. GPU wise though FAHcore_11.exe and FAHcore_14.exe will reset everytime they get a new WU to low so you will need prifinity to fix them on realtime. Also I set the FAHcore_11 & _14 to use all cores and not just core 0 and it works a treat
Ok just to recap so I set each vm to 2 seperate cores in low priority and the gpu to all cores and to realtime
Right day 2 running notfred only one of my pcs can run two instances of it with out killing the gpu .q6700 with 9800 gt runs fine with two notfreds and one gpu client ,the other on a q6600 with a gtx285 looses around 2k a work unit with two notfreds running but is ok with just one notfred and one gpu client all settings are the same on both pcs same op system on them And memory. I am thinking it could be the CPU that ain't as powefull either way my points have risen but I want more
Both the cpu's are @stock speed cant tell you exactly what the ppd are as fahmon still wont see them and I have tried all ways of doing it could be something 2 do xp 64 .However just checked my stats @http://kakaostats.com/t.php?t=35947 and I have 28,351 showing which is about the highest I have ever had since folding ...So @leaste something is working correct...ps fahmon for all my other clients is showing 2070ppd
Hmmmm maybe running 2 NotFred clients on a stock 2.4ghz Q6600 is not leaving enough juice behind for both your GPUs. Have you deffo got the vmware.vmx's running low priority and the GPU's FAHcore_11.exe & FAHcore_14.exe running realtime? I got a Q6600 @ 3.0ghz and 2 x GTX260's running 2 x VMware NotFred's and 2 GPU clients and they all produce what they should, I get around 2500ppd per instance on the Q6600. Also very strange FahMon cant connect, you are using version 2.3.991 yeah? I use the name or IP that pops up in the VM bootup screen: IE \\fold-04fa\c\etc\folding\1\
Yep version 2.3.991 the desktop icon which contains the following 564d28b4-ca91-c9d5-3abb-2bd21d28b9dc.vmem.lck folding.vmdk.lck folding.vmx.lck 564d28b4-ca91-c9d5-3abb-2bd21d28b9dc 3 folders called folding folding.vmsd nvram Desktop folder is @ C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\folding 1 hostname is fold-E74C OR IP 192.168.11.7 Maybe its set wrong but in fahmon the location I have put is \\fold-E74C\C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\folding\1\ and the client on virtual machine is clicked ,,, bet u gonna laugh and say its wrong as I aint very good @this sleeping is my better hobby
