    Hi all,

Having some trouble connecting to my EE Brightbox router via Ethernet, of all things. Wireless works fine and is fairly nippy, but connecting via LAN cable just gets me into the router homepage and no further.

The first few times, it said "connected but no internet"; I then tried the random move of adding my Ethernet port MAC to the filter table, at which point it said I now had internet access, but quite plainly didn't. Web pages just timed out and nothing would connect.

I know the cable works, I know have internet (hence typing this now), I've tried updating the Ethernet drivers but they're up to date and the router itself is auto-updated so I can't touch that.

Can anyone think of anything I haven't tried? Have already rebooted a number of times, by the way...!

    TIA

    DNS?

Do you have some settings on your ethernet adaptor - try putting yourself on a static ip in the nic properties and setting your DNS to google DNS or something and see if that gets you webpages. It's weird though that it works on wireless and not wire, suggests you have some specific settings on the other end of the wire, ie. your PC?

    Try a different port?

Can you do an IPCONFIG /ALL from cmd prompt and post the results?

    Bust.

Reset the network adapter to use an IP address from my range, gave it the default 192.168.0.1 gateway, set DNS servers to OpenDNS but still can only get the router.

The ipconfig /all returned a lot of data - what should I be looking for?

Anything further on this one chaps, before I go through the pain of replacing the router?

    No worries if not...

Post the details for the LAN adapter on here so we can check (or PM them to me)

Does it work if you use googles DNS?

Cheers sas. Here's what I got from ipconfig /all (I cut just the ethernet info out and removed some of the personal bits, but can always let you know on these if I need to - just paranoid about security. Have put REMOVED where I did so, everything else is as is, including any blank spaces):

I'd replace the router. And complain to EE
I have the same router and mine connected instantly spot on but it tell you what, the connnection is dodgy as hell.
I tried 6 times downloading drivers from AMD and Nvidia website but a about 10-30% through the DL the DL just stops completely. I had to DL wirelessly via SO's laptop. And on speedtest.net is either works and spazzes out giving me a average of 7mb/s or it just decreases constantly to nothing and never completes the test.

Connection with EE seems dodgy at best.
Runs Netflix on the BD player in the living room. All the SO cares about.

Thought I'd close this one out and thank everyone for weighing in with assistance.

Ditched EE and their shoddy service, replaced the router and the Ethernet socket is now fine, suggesting router issue. I do now have a line issue to sort, but that's a story for another day!

    Cheers all.
