CAD/Revit build

Hi guys,

Just need a little guidance on a build for my friend for CAD/Revit so im looking at i7 3 series maybe a i5 3570k?

Also any feed back on the Z77 mobos out there a want a solid board so any feed back will be great

the rest will be the normal stuff
16gig ram
SSD + mech drive

Does the GPU make a difference? If so, what is recommended?

Sorry its vague, but most the build is easy stuff its just the core components i need a little help with.

THanks Brave

Ok here is what was sent

Operating System*

Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit

Home Premium

Browser

Internet Explorer 7.0 (or later)

CPU Type

Multi-Core Intel Xeon, or i-Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.

Revit products will use multiple cores for many tasks, using up to 16 cores for near-photorealistic rendering operations.

Memory

16 GB RAM

Usually sufficient for a typical editing session for a single model up to approximately 700 MB on disk. This estimate is based on internal testing and customer reports. Individual models will vary in their use of computer resources and performance characteristics.

Models created in previous versions of Revit software products may require more available memory for the one-time upgrade process.

Video Display

1,920 x 1,200 or higher with true color

Video Adapter

DirectX 10 capable graphics card with Shader Model 3 as recommended by Autodesk.

Hard Disk

5 GB free disk space

10,000+ RPM (for Point Cloud interactions)

If he is doing ray traced renders then as many cores as possible, X79 will probably be your best bet.

Also some renderers will use CUDA so you may find a 5-series card better than a 6-series depending on what he's using.

Yep a second hand 570 will do great, then put the money into the CPU and ram because he'll need it

SamL has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
Why quad channel RAM, won't the 3570k only make use of a dual channel setup? Or am I being a total noob here? (I've been wondering this for a few days now, from other builds that people have been speccing up)

If getting Z77 then go with two 8gig sticks, but I really think you should be looking at X79, its expensive but basically made for what he wants to do

X79 second hand 570 for cuda support

3930x is the CPU your after

128gb ssd
16gb ram

Build you have specced is nice for a gamer but offers poor performance for what he's asked

6 series nvidia cards are poor for cuda as they are gimped most reviews show this

Most of the budget will go in CPU board ram

The build in your sig would be significantly faster than the build you intend to buy

Ok how about swapping out the board and cpu for a 3930k and a asus P9X79 mobo
with just a regular 570gtx
