in audio i always braid the wires on amps i make aswell as whenever i make battery packs because i love how it looks and it tidy's things up. my question being can you do the same with the powersupply or will you run into line instability because of interfeirence (sp?) i know you can get weird issues when you wind wires together and thats why im checking.
Heh heh...dude, heatshrink tubing isn't all THAT hard to get.. braiding is fine, as long as you can follow the wires...I get waaay too easily confused. Of course, you could always just put a piece of tape on the end of each and label it a pin number.
well all i would really have to label would be the grounds but i wont run into interfierence issues? sweet
Lol dude its the other way around, you'll have to lable everything EXCEPT the grounds. Think of it like this if you plug the 12v line into a 3.3v pin your gonna have problems where as if you mess up the grounds it doesnt matter cos they're all 0v aslong as you have one of the ground wires going to a ground pin you'll be ok.
Just makes sure you label the pins or something and to give yourself alittle slack at the top by the connectors.
The cable feels "tighter" ( but it's still easy to bend) but it's much easier to route in a case so it loses some flexibility but the cable is easier to work with IMO.
I braid my small cables, like fan cables, wol cables. Mainly out of boredom though when the case is apart. No problems here, definitely go for it, it is a nice change from the usual spaghetti mess, or sleeving.
um id say if your gonna take apart the psu might as well pay 10 dollars and sleeve it while your at it
You would have to take it apart mate (i know this as i have sisters - no they dont braid power supplies, but they do braid each others hair ) Also, if you have a look at the pic aswell, you see that they've removed the molex plugs. The actually PSU unit would not have to be opened (unless you want the braided cable to emerge from the psu, instaead of starting outside)
You won't have to take it apart unless you want the braided cable to go all the way to the top of the PSU although I do take them apart when I do braid the PSU (well not me but my little sis braids it) so that I can seperate and organise the cables and because it gives a much cleaner look. You do have to take the molex ends off and I usually replace those with EZ grip connectors. The total process takes about an evening (about three hours) with the braiding the most time consuming part. That PSU was for a friend's rig but I have to go out and see her later so I can take some more pics of the finished unit if you guys want. I would use mine but I haven't braided it yet since I'm making it a modular PSU. If anyone doesn't feel up to it I'm more then willing to take on some PSU mod work for a small fee, just give me a PM.
Just as an additionnal note, there are various braiding patterns with 4+ cable sets, thus you can get various results in flexibility. and hell, it's a lot of work on 20 cable ATX
You still have to take the molexes off to braid it, which could be considered "taking it apart". But having the braid, or my preference of sleeving, going right into the PSU gives a MUCH cleaner look.
