Currently I am running a Q9550 @3.2Ghz bashing out a1 cores using FredNotFred. For the Chimps Challenge I was considering switching to 6.29 -smp a3 cores. More points gained or about the same?
With the new A3 cores you can just run the native windows SMP client and get a big point boost. You will need a monitor like HFM in order to figure out the unit bonus and you will need a Passkey
My Q9550 @ 3.23GHz on WinXP32 (no VMware) is doing about 7.1k PPD on an a3 (P6012) at the moment if that helps.
Theres no reason not to do A3 units anyway, as my fellow folders have stated. You will get a lot more points!
Guys what's with the conservative o/c's get them Q9550's up higher! Mine is @ 3.75Ghz on a 440Mhz fsb running nice and stable. I tried to go higher but it won't. I start getting corrupt WU's and then scandisk deletes them halfway through! That happened twice with the SMP and GFX clients, really pee'd me off no end.
Wow thanks Doc didn't realize it would be that much of a points difference, getting approx 3.5K now using FredNotFred. I assume your running 24/7 - pure folder.... Thanks everyone else for their input, I'll try and switch over @ the W/E after work. I may even look at upping the clock on it as well, depending on temps! (I have had it at 3.8 in the past for testing but temps were a little high, may even swap my Freezer 7 for a Fenrir).
