I cannot decide whether to reinstate my 670 SLI or wait on the next series.

Will the forthcoming GTX 880 or renamed to 980 be better than 670 SLI and what sort of power requirements is the card likely to need.?

I suppose it boils down to need or want, mate.

Does your machine struggle with anything?

Assuming that you like 'eye candy' at 1440p res on your display, you will likely see an increase in frame rates with a second 670. However, that said, you could sell your current 670 and pick up a used 780 or something like that with the proceeds of both sales? It depends on how keen you are for a 'new generation' card!

No no, not really. Just planning ahead.

I am looking to go 4K and I believe the even 670 SLI will not cut it. If I am going to upgrade then I would probably miss the 7 series cards and jump to the 9's as Nvidia next series is likely to be.

Oh and cash from the sale of the last 670 is going on a new roof TV aerial as I am sick of the rubbish reception from my current ancient communal roof space aerial.

looks like 770 SLI will be faster than the new 980, so the 670 SLI will likely be about the same speed.

Given the prices 670s are going for, thats probably what I'd do.

Yep the 980's are supposed to perform about 2% to 5% better than a GTX780Ti and use less power according to leaked performance results.

So glad I kept my 780Ti SLI setup as it looks like, it will perform the same as a GTX980 setup.

Rumours are though that the GTX980Ti will be coming in March 2015, and offering around 30% performance increase over the GTX780Ti.

    GTX 580 1.5 GB here.........

Anyone know any information on 970? What sort of performance to expect?

Now that I don't game as much as before, I can't justify another top end card. I'm going for Maxwell because it will be the latest with best power saving tech. So 970 sounds perfect for me.

I'm struggling to believe that the 980Ti will be on par with a SLI 780Ti setup. Anything more than a 30% performance bump and we're in danger of them saving the 980Ti hardware for the next "Titan" card and appending "Ti" to the end of the vanilla 980.

Going on leaked benchmarks (caveat emptor) the 980 will be around 4% faster than a 780 Ti (others claim 10%), rumors are saying the new cards will initial come with 4GB, later to be 8GB.

The reasons being given for skipping 8 are apparently the new cards reduce the TDP from the 780 Ti's 250W, to a TDP of 170W.

EDIT: Probably a more reliable source here.

So the consensus is that it will not be an upgrade from a GTX 670 SLI set up?

Not one that i would consider unless i was having problems running SLI, wanted to reduce power and/or thermals.

If this is indeed true then waiting for the 980Ti might be a good idea.
