Last night there was a bit of a loud bang and then a weird sound, I was asleep and it woke me up as it was the middle of the night, but I couldn't work out what it was/I fell straight back to sleep. This morning I found out it was because of this (this is my alarm clock):

It's out of warranty, but I'm not sure things are supposed to do that still. I don't really want to plug it in as it might do something really naughty (who knows). Should I get in touch with Archos about this or are they not going to be bothered?

It was still on and working when I actually got out of bed this morning, but disconnecting it from the walil and it went off almost instantly, where as it's supposed to run on that battery, that is now all big and fat.

I'd definitely get in touch with them chap - I know that some Logitech harmony remotes have similar issues and they were replaced for free. You're lucky that it didn't cause more damage...

Annoyingly I cannot now until tonight as I need the serial number off it to even be able to email them. Though there is a London phone number maybe I will phone them at lunchtime.

Guessing that's a lithium cell; they only puff like that normally due to over charge or over discharge ( or serious physical damage ), I'd say there's a fault in the charge circuit- store it outside just in case it vents ( lovely toxic fumes ) and/or ignites...

Crikey, pretty sure I would have bricked myself!

As said, keep the thing outside, it could still be dangerous in some way!

Set your oven to 250C and see what happens when you put it inside. For science! :dremel:

I've worked on Macbook pro notebooks with batteries which did the same thing or at the very least swelled and damaged the case. It definitely needs to be stored outside for a while; I always remove the batteries and place them in a lipo safe bag and bucket of sand outdoors for a week before disposing of them in the battery bin.
