Hi all, first post but have been lurking for a while. Haven't built a pc since my and athalon 1.8 was the bees knees so am rusty to all this! Need advice regarding my new build, so I'll list what I'm thinking to have, and hopefully someone can advise me good or bad! CPU: Amd Phenom II 1100t Black Edition Mobo: Asus Sabretooth 990fx (maybe crosshair v formula but leaning towards the sabretooth' RAM: Corsair DDR3 Vengeance 1600 (undecided) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1tb 6gb/s (maybe WD caviar green) Case: Corsair Obsidian 650D PSU: Corsair Enthisuast 750 tx v2 GPU: ATI 6770 (severely undecided) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated especially regarding ram hard drive and gpu! Thanks
Budget: Main uses of intended build: Monitor resolution: Storage requirements: Will you be overclocking: yes/no (delete as required) Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Extra information about desired system: Fill this in mate and it will make it alot easier for us to help you.
Swap the hdd for a samsung spinpoint f3. IMO you would be better spending money on a hx650w or coolermaster silent pro gold 600w as they have modular cables. That gpu isn't very good. With that build I would recommend at least a 6850 or a 560 to avoid gpu bottlenecking Copy if win 7 and either a thermaltake frio or one if the corsair all in one units Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers?
Whats your main use. i5 2500k beat the 1100 at everything apart from a few encoding task and they cost the same. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/03/intel-sandy-bridge-review/12
The i5 2500K is definitely the CPU to pick up for general purpose home machines right now. AMD may or may not be coming out with something better later, but for now it's Intel.
As for the Intel recommendations, afraid I'm an AMD fanboy As for gfx, is going for the 6850 worth the extra £30 or so? Is the spinpoint better than a WD caviar? In what way? Would a cpu cooler be required if not overclocking? Budget: 900 Monitor resolution: not yet purchased Storage requirements: under 1tb, no ssd reqd Will you be overclocking: possibly, minimal Oh and also, worth waiting for the bulldozer chip? The plan was to upgrade to one anyway, so in your opinion would this system be alright for the new bulldozer ship? Apparently gonna retail about £180. Thanks very much for replies!
Item for sale http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120757748006&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT will help save some cash on build!
As for gfx, is going for the 6850 worth the extra £30 or so? I would say yes. Is the spinpoint better than a WD caviar? In what way? Better than the Caviar Green? Yes. Better than the Caviar Black? No. Would a cpu cooler be required if not overclocking? I always put an aftermarket cooler on mine. If you're not overclocking, then a Freezer 7 Pro would be fine. Oh and also, worth waiting for the bulldozer chip? The plan was to upgrade to one anyway, so in your opinion would this system be alright for the new bulldozer ship? Apparently gonna retail about £180. Yes, it'll be fine for Bulldozer. The chip will be a direct replacement.
AMD have confirmed they're releasing BD's next month Maybe wait, you may see a price drop on the current Phenom's?
I've touched a BD this time they are coming out. If your budget can stretch to it, and if you're sure you want to go the AMD route wait a little longer. Buying a phenom now doesn't make sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The samsung spinpoint is cheaper for Same speed hence why most reviews recommend it and most people on this forum do aswell. Tbh unless you really want to go amd SB is just better and yes buying a phenom would be pointless at this pointless until bd has been "properly" benchmarked.
Always happens, the second someone posts a proposed AMD build the Intel comes flying in. Anyway. Absolutely, a 6850 is the minimum I personally would game with at this point in time (for AMD anyway). Spinpoint F3 and WD Caviar Black are some of the fastest drives, either of those are great so go by price? Not required but preferable. You can pickup a decent cooler like an Arctic Cooling Freezer or CM Hyper 212+ for $20-30 so it's not a big deal, but definitely required if you're going to do any OC whatsoever. So assume 1080p, size will vary but you want to aim for 1920x1080. See CPU cooler then. Not wise to wait, we still don't know for sure how it will perform or how it will be priced... though if you're really planning on upgrading to one anyway, then I feel the 1100T is totally wasted and you're better off with an OCed 955BE in the meantime which will be alot cheaper.
as junkie says, why waste the dough on the 1100t, grab a perfectly capable 945BE or w/e and see what bd brings...if you need something now...
Personally i wouldnt invest too much in an AMD system right now, given that bulldozer is due out, either buy an i5 or wait til bulldozer imo. OR chuck together a capable AMD system that wont break the bank that will do for now...
This makes sense, put one of the cheaper athlons (X2 245) in just so you have a running system. As for the mobo the Saber tooth is every bit as good as the Crosshair, just a bit cheaper. I'm running the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 and it'll get my 1100T to 4.3 quite happily, but I just waiting on Bulldozer to complete the new rig.
