    Hi guys,

I'm living in Singapore at the moment but I need to buy some things from a UK website. Unfortunately I keep getting blocked for some reason.

I think a proxy server is the way to go, but

    A) how do I use one and which one is good?
    B) is it safe to use for purchasing online?

    Cheers!

    Will

I wouldn't put my details through a proxy server, but that's just me.

Do you not have anyone who can buy the stuff for you that lives in England, so that they can then send it on to you or have it waiting here for you when you return to the UK?

I certainly wouldn't input my details to some unknown proxy server / VPN... If the site is blocking you then won't that mean that the company doesn't want to ship to you?

What, may I ask, are you after buying and from whom?

OK, not going to say what it is but let's just say it's private, it's for a lady and it's 18+! Hence why not asking anyone to buy it for me.

Irritatingly, this sort of thing is blocked in SG.

So is a VPN/Proxy not safe?

I'll happily buy it for you and ship it to Singapore/UK/wherever. I'll even keep quiet about what it is and not judge you - I have no morals anyway.

Serious offer dude, though I'll understand if you don't want to take me up on it :hehe:

Do you know anyone in the UK who has a router you can vpn too? easy.

I wouldn't put my details into a proxy server, but I would over a vpn. Especially a vpn where I knew the gateway was just a mates router in the UK!

I'll let you vpn to mine if you promise to not misbehave :)

May have to take you up on that offer! I tried on my mobile and another laptop but no luck. The site was fine a few days prior, so clearly them governments know what I'm up to!

OK, gonna try at work (after hours, and thank god for private browsing lol)

Managed to order it at work, seems I'm just blocked at home!

    Thanks for the offer though!

Now....the other question is can I use the proxy server to access my sky TV account in the UK?!

Proxy and VPN are different things, you could achieve that with a VPN. I doubt you could with a proxy. There is lots of vpn solutions, you need one where you can pick your gateway as being in the UK - either that, or you need to know someone with a router/network that can support you dialling into it and using that as your gateway.

There's no way I'd order a sparkly butt plug at work thats for sure.

Also private browsing only stops traces of what your browsing being recorded on that computer (does it even stop the dns cacheing on windows??) It doesn't stop the work IT system (or anyone else on the network) from monitoring your actions.
