Just after a little bit of advise too please from some experienced folders. Im look at pairing these 4 cards with the following:

    MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD 790FX
    OCZ Reaper 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C6 1333MHz
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition
    Antec 1200 or 902 case

oh and finally the psu i was considering these

    Corsair 1000W HX PSU
    Enermax Revolution 1250W PSU

The corsair is only £170 now but only has 6 pci-e cables.
Please help me decide so i can get it folding asap for CPC/BIT-Tech and help stop EVGA catching us.
PS my folding name is under YorkshireMenace(UK)

The 902 is the only case you've listed with 8 pci slots on the back.

Both PSU's appear to only have 6 pci-e power slots on them but I haven't used either so can't really comment,

Oh i thought the bigger antec 1200 had more silly me. So i guess that makes the 902 the front runner.
Doesnt the Enermax have 8? Its the same series that CPC used for the folding set up but i thought for a tenner more than the 1.05kw psu that the 1.25kw was worth the extra. Is there ant downside to using molex to pci-e adaptors? Which psu would you recommend?

AMD AM2 7750 BE is cheap (less than £50), overclocks to 100% solid 3.0ghz with a 15x multipler and small vcore increase.

I got one running 6 GPU's (3 x 9800GX2's) on a MSI K9A2 board and with a VMware SMP client it still does 1700ppd, bargin me thinks!

If you wanna spend some more cash AM3 955 quad core is the way to go :D

Memory wise OCZ gold / OCZ reaper, Corsair Dominators, Kingston Hyper-X are all good :D

If you are putting four graphics cards in a case then you should have as many ventilation fans as the case will fit. You will need room around the case, so don't plan putting it under a desk. Don't plan on sitting near it, as it will be blowing hot air like a hair dryer. Sorry if this is all a bit obvious.

NO mate all input is good. The k9a2 mobos seem to be getting thin on the ground. I had originally considered that board. Overclockers have the GD70 AM3 mobo for £130 ATM so i thought that was quite a good buy.

So far i seem to have sorted the psu enermax 1250w and the case Antec 902

Just depends what mobo now for the cpu and ram.

Oh and Arthur it has its own room at home lol! Its like having a lodger.

Im building to replace my old folding rig.:dremel:

Yeah very true points ArtherBuse, also I would also uprate the 120mm fans in the 902 as well, they are ok but I would get some Scythe Kaze Jyuni's in there so you get good air to the cards, in fact you might as well put another one in the side window and rear as well ;)

Yep will definately max out the case with fans. Will look for the fans you mentioned.
Im thinking of either the athlon2 X2 250 or 550 for the AM3 board.
Think it maybe time to sell my old faithful Q6600. Must be the best cpu ive ever owned.
Need to sell off my 8800gs too. They had the neo vortex coolers on very good.
Id keep them all but the Mrs said she dont mind ne spending upgrading my folding rig so long as ive only got 1 lol.:sigh:

People say Vista is hard to get multiple graphics cards folding. I think if you use Windows XP 32-bit then you should have 2GB memory instead of the 4GB you are planning.

A 32-bit operating system can only see 4GB of memory in total. Some of this space is taken for the system to use for memory buffers and stuff. The grahic card memory uses up some more. Usually this leaves 3.5 GB of RAM visible. With four graphics cards, there might be only one or two GB or RAM visible, so a second 2GB memory stick would sit there doing nothing.

I have a PC with three 8800gt cards in it with WinXP Pro SP3. If I start Windows Explorer, click Help, click About Windows, the bottom line says I have 2,882,860 bytes of memory available to Windows. This is 2.75 GB. Could some one with four cards in a WinXP 32-bit system please tell us how much memory is available to Windows on yours?

Edit: I just read you might have to get 2x2GB anyway, so you can forget about this.

I suppose it depends on wether i go AM3 or AM2. Because DDR3 seem to only come in 4gb dual channel kits whereas DDR2 comes in all varieties.

These are the best fans I've ever used (I have 14 of them , the 1900RPM ones), at 7V they are virtually silent but at 12V they throw out 110CFM. You will need a fan controller obviously.

I can't emphasis enough how much heat will come off 4 gfx cards crammed together, you'll probably need to run the onboard fans at 70%+ all the time just to keep them cool. So be prepared for the noise :(

XP x64 edition would use all 4GB & folds well.

All depends if it's a dedicated farm or will be used for other stuff.

Agree, I have XP 32 bit running 4 cards, 512Mb of RAM and its fine for dedicated FAH.
